The Gorge was cold. Had been cold for as long as it could remember, if it could remember. Very cold. All three hives that it had built and nurtured were destroyed. The Kara had once ruled this ship, this piece of territory in space. Until the TSA'S Frontiersman showed up. The battle had been long and fierce, many had died, more Kara than TSA though. Now only the Gorge was left. This very cold Gorge. It was cold because it was outside the ship, near the waste exit. It should be dead in this frozen emptiness called space, but it was regenerating. Not as fast as it was dying though, it was losing it's final battle, or so it seemed. With its claws dug into the intake vent, it spewed from its mouth a tiny stream of bacterium that was being drawn into the ship. The Gorge would die soon, but not the presence of the Kara on this ship. Soon once again the Kara would own the NS.Tanith.

Thirty or so TSA still roamed the ship looking for Kara stragglers. In squads of four, two in Heavy Amour and Heavy Machine Guns, two with Jet Packs to cover from above and enter high vents, one of them had a Grenade Launcher. But there were no Kara left. Sgt.Biker knew this, but it was good to let the men search. Let the men burn up the adrenalin that was racing threw their nervous systems. The battle had been long and hard. Four days ago the Frontiersmen had enter the NS.Tanith 60 men strong. Today there were 31 left. Kept alive by shear willpower and the knowledge that they were mankind's last hope of survival. Two hives had been up when they arrived. A third was being built. Men and weapons were being lost fast as the Kara's Skulks ripped threw the Nubies in the unit that had just replaced men lost in a previous battle. Somehow the Kara could since the fear and disorientation in the Nubies and always went for them first. And the fact that even after intense training, most Nubies still were slow to react to the Commander's orders and seemed to drift away from their squads and become lost, made them easy targets for the Kara. As a Frontiersman you had always tried to help them and teach them, but in battle it was hard to keep the Nubies alive. Captain Sativa had ordered the tapping of the nano-sludge on the ship to replace lost equipment and to upgrade the ones we had. He had died the second day aboard the NS.Tanith. But that action had won the battle. The Frontiersmen had been able to upgrade their amour and weapons and used the nanotechs to heal themselves.

The Frontiersmen had attacked the Hive that was building first, in the Waste Handling section of the ship. It was lightly defended and fell quickly. The Kara must have tapped into the nano-sludge also, they were starting to gestate into Fades and they can't do that without resources, at least we hope so. The next hive at Fusion Reactor was a different story. It was well defended and had to be seiged. Some heavy amour and heavy machine guns were being replicated and issued. The fighting had been fierce but the sieges made all the deference. They blasted the hive into oblivion while the HA-HMGS took on the remaining Fades. The third Hive, Satellite Communications had been simple. The Kara could not gestate into Fades without the second Hive and the Skulks and Lerks were no match for the beefed up Frontiersmen. Now they were mopping up. As First Squad members, Rott, Phased, Silent and Scott stood around the Command Chair, which was occupied by Sgt.Biker, and listened to reports of the sections of the ship being reported as cleared. They thought of the 2 week passes that were issued to all battle survivors. They didn't know it, but they would never get to use those passes.

The Gorge was almost dead. It's regeneration could not keep up with the cold. No bacterium was left in it's body. But it didn't matter, the bacterium matt had started to form in the Cargo Storage section of the ship. As the gorge died and floated away from the NS.Tanith the Kara presence was once again onboard the ship................
