Ns Voice Com Shutdown?

JedisarJedisar Join Date: 2002-03-03 Member: 264Awaiting Authorization

Works find in everything but ns..
Last night I was playing on now we donce, just chatting with some guys in the ready room, having a good time. I use net_graph 3 to check my fps, then go to say something on voice com...press the button I have bound to it, and nothing happens..

Okay...maybe the key got unbound, I think, so I go into my controls and re-bind it, then try again...nothing. Use the manual command +voicerecord and nothing...

Now, by not working, I don't mean stutters, or doesn't record...I mean the speaker sprite doesn't show up on my hud and it doesn't record. In the tab list, the speaker sprites don't show up next to names showing if they have voice com or not. It's like the voice com had COMPLETELY shutdown, been disabled. As if it were never coded in.

So I'll try to restart, I say to myself. Close all windows, restart, enter ns on donce again, nothing.
I leave donce and try twelve random servers, and all of them, this same thing is happening...my voice com is acting like it's disabled.

So I check in multiplay config, and my "Allow voice com in this mod" button was checked. I checked the variable itself, Mod_voiceenable, and it lists as 1. I try to change it to one and try again, nothing. I go in multiplayer config, uncheck enable voice for this mod, hit okay, go back in, and hit it back on and save the changes, still nothing. I tried playing on a CS, TFC, Vanilla HL servers, and it worked just fine there. I asked on mirc MULTIPLE times, and no one knew anything to help, but I learned that atleast three other people have had this problem..

Now, mind you, this just happened out of the blue..I didn't try to use my voice com before I used the net_graph command, so I don't know if that was it, but whatever happened, I just want it fixed so I can play NS.

ANY help would appreciated,
Thank you in advance.

hehe
Weird
It's not disabled
I'll tell you that
I have it disabled mostly cause you people with your annoying voices are too much for me...
hehe
And the speakers still show up ( I mean totally shut down "voice_enable 0" and so on )

EDIT: Im talking about the speakers in scorelist for those who are not following

well I don't know exactly why it's doing this, but I know it's making it impossible for me to play NS like I used to and, all in all, making the game not fun.

Make sure that the cvar for voice_modenable is set to 1. Alternately there is probably a checkbox if you don't like to use the console... Probably in the advanced controls or multiplayer preferences.

Terr, Raz, I've already stated that I've tried both and they failed. If It was so simple, It wouldn't be a problem that doesn't go away...As for Than, my goal is NOT to have to re-download 100+ megs. That is a LAST ditch effort.

go get it off of redphive or something

and as a sugestions, keep a backup of your DLs (especialy for mods and what not, I simply have a downloads folder that I very rarly clean out)

i searched throu all of Sierra's support articles, and they don't seem to have ever encounterd that error before(then again not many people turn on -dev). i really don't see any other way of fixing except dling it again

if its really that much of a hassle, i'll dl it burn it to cd and send it via snail mail.....

or just save your config.cfg (or where ever they are)
• JefeJefe Join Date: 2003-04-21 Member: 15734Members, Constellation
Actually, if you're using aliases too (which I'm assuming you are) you'd have to save your autoexec.cfg and your config.cfg, and then put them back in. And you might want to try tweaking your control panel a little bit too, it could be something in there, even if it is just NS. It's worth a shot.

Oh, and I love your sig Jedi.
• JowerJower Join Date: 2003-02-12 Member: 13448Members
Just try moving your autoexec.cfg and config.cfg out of NS folder and then starting
Then it should make a new config.cfg and if it works then you know it's a problem with your config files

Okay, I had this same exact problem. This is what I did to fix it:

First let me tell you what my system specs are, maybe it's related.
Windows XP Pro, Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer/MP3 (this is key).

1. Uninstalled NS from Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
2. Deleted any NS folders left over from the uninstall.
3. Went to creative.com and downloaded the latest drivers from the site (date 12/02/02 I think) Filename: AUDDRVPACK_L11.EXE
4. Created an XP restore point and then installed the SB drivers.
5. Re-installed NS, and DID NOT move my config files back.
6. Started NS, bound all my keys again
7. Started a LAN game and then typed in console "voice_loopback 1" to I could hear if it was working. It worked!
8. Typed voice_loopback 0 and then quit.

That's it, that seemed to fix the problem for me.

So in shorter words
Reinstalled
Installed new drivers
hehe

Not everyone is a geek like you and I, Jower, when it comes to this stuff. I try to be as specific as possible when trying to help.

My suggestion would also be: Completely remove Sound Card and drivers and reinstall the sound drivers...
Like it says in the screenshot: Could not assign channel > seems like soundcard bug..
So drivers...
