how have you tried to change the balance?

Then make sure you have all the boxes and satellite speakers (let's assume you have a 4 box subwoofer like I do, cos I had a problem of this sort as well <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> ) are plugged in correctly to the main subwoofer, there are like a thousand holes, follow the manual and put them in in the right order, then make sure all the boxes have power !!! and make sure their volume controls r correctly set (master/surround/speaker etc)

Could always be ur soundcard is a bit wacky, but that would be highly unlikely, as it would be more likely not to produce any sound at all if it were the busted soundcard.
