Dont close it, another discoussion why rotating

The field of view should be a togable option,

What it does to the player is gives him the sense a 6 dimensional plane of existence, I personally found it really neat in avp2 when I finally grasped the concept that there are now walls and everything is simply ground, the what you call disorienting effect worked on me in a very immersing manner such as you bob mouth view, I think if you strive to immerse the player to the point where you create a bomb mouth view , its kind of silly to give up the rotating FOV, and by this I don’t mean that it a player has to be locked into it, but rather a option like others said,

plz be responsible moderators and do not lock this thread as there are many evident supporters of the idea overall.

Sincerely

Sam

Well, if there are enough supports for it, you guys likely won't be getting it until version 2. There is a lot more important stuff to work on for the first version, alien abilities, animations, balancing, etc. Time will tell.

They haven't "given up" on the rotating POV.... they took it out. It's my understanding that they had a functional system where this happened... but opted to take it out for various reasons. (I could have gotten my information mixed up here, but I doubt it.)

Also keep in mind this dev team is not going to be adding anything and everything into the game just because it sounds cool. That's called "Feature Creep", and it can seriously hinder a games progress, if not destroy the game itself.

That said, I'd love to see a rotating POV, but it simply isn't going to happen. Like comprox said, if it ever does happen, it's probably not going to be in the first release... but I doubt their opinion on the matter isn going to change all of a sudden for version 2. I guess anything could happen though.

when i tried wallclimbing in the nstr i thought it was strange that the view didn't flip, i got used to the avp system, but now i can see why they decided to do it like this, it does make navigating alot easier........

If I could have an option for view-rotation for free, I'd take it.  Unfortunately, it takes effort to implement this (and not a small amount of effort), and really, I don't think it's going to stop anyone from playing NS.  Other features or bugs, if not addressed, will prevent people from playing or having fun, and those come first.

A rotating FOV could very well happen in the future, but it's not happening for our first public release, there's just not time for it.

Oh, I thought this was a discussion of why func_rotating entities spin you around when you're in spec mode.

I'd like to know why they do that, though.

I like the view rotation in AvP2 very much but at times I find it disorienting and even nausiating. But lots of fun once I got used to it, nothing beats a headbite whilst hanging from a wall.

I have no beefs with the current wall-climbing system at all, It is very fun. It requires skill, moreso than the AvP2 system. If rotating views were added it would be good if they defaulted to either 0,90,180 and 270 degrees of rotation. No matter what the angle of the wall is, your view just snaps to the closest 90 degree angle. This would make wall-climbing just a little more believable. Another thing that would make wall-climbing better is rotating models, maybe another day.

i find that the fixed FOV makes it harder to navigate actually :\

all im saying is that many poeple of the community, believe that a rotating fov adds a hellova lot to the atmosphere, it is apparent that this game has a lot to do with creating a very atmospheric experience, and so it would be a very big bonus for most of us should the team decide to include a option for a rotating fov, even if its at a latter date.

And like we said, later, too much work right now. There are more important matters

Think about it. To have the fixed POV, all you need is to move the camera around in space. To have it move, you'd need a function that flips the camera depending on where you are. And as scythe said, it would most likely have only 4 POVs: up, down, right left. To have more POVs, it would take MUCH more programming, delaying the release a lot. I've done some 2D graphics and even THEY are a pain in the butt. Believe me, this is for the best.

If all you guys are going to do is argue the point, when it has been added to the to-do list, then this topic is closed. When coding for the main stuff is not even done yet, why would Flay go back and add in features that some people want?
