Do computer consoles play Techno?
On the frontier to new NS ambience sounds I cutted some parts out of damn old games, techno sound remixes and other ambience music into looping ambience sounds.

http://www.df5jz.de/Ollj/complex-amb.zip
Close your eyes, play it looped and imagine a matching NS environment, if possible.
Whats good, whats crap and did you found out were I took this souds from?
More coming soon, feel free to use it in your funmap readyrooms.

I don't think you should put actual tonal music in there. Remember, the players are also going to be playing their own music while they play.

    Good ones:

complex-ab1 -- good for a hive room, if you fix the looping at the end and turn down the volume of the heartbeats.

complex-ab2 -- good for a generator/airlock

complex-Al-Alert -- cover it up with some different, atonal ambience

complex-Angelf0 -- good for a large metal chamber with doodads inside

complex-freestyl -- cover it up a little with some different, atonal ambience

complex-hum1

complex-hum2

complex-hum3

complex-werealive -- good for a room with jumping electricity and stuff.

btw, did I hear some "sandstorm" in there? Boy, I hate that song.

Deltenaten; alles Deletanten, die ihre eigene Musik abspielen.
I think... no I know for sure that a games atmosphere can be greatly enhanced by fitting music. The guys who designed Myst ™ discussed that out enough and decided to create some sound tracks for the different locations; with success.
C'mon... we all can keep ignorant of people who are playing Britney while playing NS. Get in some cool techno in the bars or thrilling background music.
Does anybody believe games like Deus Ex or Unreal were so intense because of the visuals only???
btw... aren't there hotkeys to stop your own music from playing while in-game?

no, but if you have two tracks playing at the same time, it will sound bad. no matter what the music.

uh-huh, that ain't "Sandstorm" it's Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler! Ollj, where you from?

Oh and, I really don't like much of those sounds in any existing ns maps - but: any of the music-like ones would fit in any readyroom. Damn if I could remember this one new map they were testing on a british server... hm... it was a map with a DISCO readyroom, that had a huge dancefloor with color-changing squares, laser beams, great music (something like yours), and even benches and bar for the eye candy! It had an area that was a huge temple-like place with big pool filled with blood (creepy), and a hive that was by a water-treatment-thingy. Ah well, back to topic: I do like the musics in readyrooms, but in elsewhere it'd be good sounds going to waste. Sorry for suchs mess-like reply
