it would be like any other game sequel. It will be in its seperate folder. It wont "overwrite" your original. lol
Making it backwards compatible with old mods would be a huge waste of programming time.
Imagine NS (or something similiar) with near-Doom-III graphics... *drool*
(Also, the HL2 physics engine sounds pretty awesome, too. Objects have actual calculated mass and strength and such. It sounds like there will be some great mod opportunities there, too. HL2 Bowling, anyone? ^.^)
actually the minimum requirements are far lower than that...like..you can run HL2 on a TNT2 video card...
Because now you can do so much more.
You just have to use the same concept and ideas and re do em. like Team Fortress from quake 1 into hl 1.
And yes, we will be able to mod HL2 as it will most likely be released with CS 2.

And by the way, HL2 will be a better game than doom 3 so just deal <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Wait, I dont recall any.
I dunno, Half life did it so well. Quake 1 was hot in the day, but quake2 was blah, and quake3 never sat well with me.
The orinigal doom was never meant to be moded. Hell you couldn't even look up and down in it (till recently with all the work (some of it current) that the comunity is putting into it)
Yeah, because we all know that if an engine has huge min requirements, it must be better. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Just because it has higher minimum requirements doesn't automatically make it a better engine. HL2 may very well be incredibly scalable, allowing a more basic version to run on low-end machines, with all the cool stuff saved for the monster gaming rigs. That said, was HL ever really on the cutting edge of technology?
But you know HL2 is going to be a mod-maker's dream. HL is an incredibly popular game, and much of this popularity and longevity is down to the mods being produced by people all over the globe. Valve know what they're doing. And no, I very much doubt they'll go to all the trouble of making the HL2 engine compatible with HL code. It would just be an incredible pain to do. (Unless that's what all the delay was LOLOLOLOL)
