I have a terrible hard time parasiting marines ...even if they stand still and I have my cross-hair perfectly lined up I strangely all too often still miss them. how do you aim when you want to parasite someone?
It's a hit scan weapon, so as long as the cross hairs are on them, you are golden. As Torak pointed out, it has a fairly limited range. If you can find a button that operates a door at the end of a long hallway(like ns_tanith near the marine spawn) practice hitting it and then taking a few steps back to get a sense of the range. It's longer than you'd think, but shorter than you'd like. =)
also you should hear a kind of thud and most likely the rine will look around trying to find you. also you can parasite buildings if you need to direct them to an outpost and want them to "hone in" on a certain target
A warning though- it's unnecessary to parasite every building. It often makes it hard to see that marine running around on the way there with all these yellow blobs clumped up. I'd stick to parasiting res towers and turret factories - if these aren't there then you can either not parasite any buildings or pick one and tag it.
It looks like you probably found the source of the problem (the range on it). Just thought I'd add a comment about that last guy's post. Sometimes buildings will get in the way of the parasite as well - I sometimes think the hitbox on the building is bigger than it looks or something. Good luck with that parasite!

Personally, I prefer all the structures parasited so that I can gauge the size of an outpost. There's a big difference between a poorly built hive defnse consisting of one TF and three turrets and two TFs, a forest of turrets and two phase gates. You can't tell the difference before you get there if only three structures are parasited.
I agree with you SoulSkorpion I find it much better if all the turrets are parasited Else I run in and think "HA ! I see you all !" only to bump into 3 turrets when I run around a corner
It's a matter of personal taste. It is a bit dangerous to parasite everything as your fellow aliens may have their vision blocked unnecessarily by dozens of yellow blobs. It's also hard to figure out where the marines are. What whould be nice is if parasited buildings were a different, darker color so that they would interfere less, and be differentiated from humans.
i think only gorges should get that two different para circles thing. <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->

personally, i think its better just to parasite the marines, then tell your teammates where the base is. that way, theres no confusion and you can get down to the lovely business of killing things <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
