A Question....

<div class="IPBDescription">is this possible?</div> I've discovered the trials and tribulations associated with making custom sprays and sigs, but unfortunately ATM I only have MS Paint to use. While everything is pretty tedious, pixel by pixel I can make something half decent. What I'm wondering though is about this picture(attached). At the moment its 204 x 267. FAR too big for any custom spray, but is there a way I could get it down to small enough for a custom spray? with paint it'd just become complete garbly gook but I was wondering if I'd have any options with other programs that would help keep the picture looking as it does.

Just curious.

    Yes, Photoshop is an ideal tool to use in this case. You could use Paint Shop Pro too, but I prefer Photoshop. With Photoshop, you can get it down to about half to a quarter of it's original size, while still maintaining reasonable quality.

    Or download the <a href='http://webplaza.pt.lu/richarme/downloads.html' target='_blank'>Half-Life Tag Converter</a>

    It doesn't matter how big your picture is, that program will convert it to right size for spray logo and even convert it to .wad file.

    And photoshop is expensive, this one is free. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thansal, your spray doesn't work. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
    I just tested it and i got this message in console: "Custom file has bogus infotablesofs (lots of numbers)"

    So i decided to use uber good Half-Life Tag Converter and now this one works. At least it works for me. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    So put this file in your x:/sierra/half-life/logos folder and in ns folder too. (just replace the old pldecal.wad file from both folders)
    Go directly ingame. If you go to preview it in the options menu, it doesn't work after that.

    Oh, and it doesn't work at few first try, but when you spray your logo about 5 times, then it works. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Haha, I post this topic, then when I check it when I wake up in the morning not only has someone answered my ?, they've done it for me, converted it to wad, tested it, given me a screenshot, and made some suggestions. (albiet I post this alot later than when I first read the topic again)

    You guys are better than Kinkos <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I see I will have to go in and darken it up, I may see what going B&W does to the picture.....I didn't think the pencil would look good in game, but thought I'd ask first to see if I would have been wasting my time........obviously not <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ty boys. Off to go work on it sommore.

    Heh, well that wasn't a big job with <a href='http://webplaza.pt.lu/richarme/downloads.html' target='_blank'>Half-Life Tag Converter</a>, if you try that program you will notice this same thing too. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And when your picture is low quality and B&W, it will look the same ingame than it looks like now.
    But if your picture is high quality (16-bit or higher), then it has to be converted to 256 colors and the result will be awful. It looks really messy ingame. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Oh and the picture size doesn't matter, that program will automatically adjust it to right size, in 256 colors and convert it to .wad file.

    although I would sugest trying to get it the right size first cus if you relie on the fit to size thing you will either distort or loose parts of ytour pic <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I alo tryed playing with dodge and burn with your pic and had some stuff work (both under PS for windows and Gimp for linux)

    honestly if you want to try and do something actual with out shelling out for PS get Gimp for windows, though it is not as nice as PS (it just isn't as usser friendly) it is FREE and if you can do it with PS you should be able to do it with Gimp <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    alos, if you are interested in learning how to use (and understand) the Gimp:
    <a href='http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/' target='_blank'>Grokking the GIMP</a> (for those of you who don't know Grokk is from Stranger in a Strange land, it basicaly meens fully understanding and in doing so becoming one with a person, thing, or concept <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    oh, and i would sugest working on a pure blue BG so that conerting to transparency looks ALOT better <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
