Player Model Rotation?

Well I've come cross the proposed new feature "player model rotation" and was wondering what it was. These are the time it's been mentioned in the 1.1 thread:

by pieceofsoap: "It was originally planned that the Lerk could cling to ceilings like a Bat. This is similar to the Skulks wall climb, only the lerk cannot move while clinging. This ability was planned for 1.0, but because the model rotation code was incomplete, it didnt make it in. This is by no means the only change to the lerk, its just the only specific one I know of."

by Brandaman: "Heres a quote from Flyra
""""""1) We're experimenting with model rotation, not sure if it will work well but you might see it in 1.1 or in a future version."

Now from those 2 quotes, I assume it has to do with rotating the model so that it doesn't stick to the wall, and thus would let you move. Is that true?

The search function is down right now, so no help there.

Thanks.

i am not sure either and so will get flamed for posting but i thinks its to do with the angle the player is to the wall/ceiling, e.g. they (NS team) are apparently making the model rotation for the skulk so that when u walk on walls your feet are on the wall so its as if you are actauly walking on walls, i assume the lerk would stand upside down on the ceiling and cling there.

so model rotation is straight forward (in concept) just the model rotated to look more natural in the enviroment

The search function isn't down. Well, except for that link at the top of the screen. That don't work. But there's a little text box at the bottom of the screen... that DOES work.

Also, no search was really necessary, as the relevant thread that would give you the information is <i>still on the first page of the forum</i>.

Go <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=30134' target='_blank'>here</a>. There's even a nifty WMV animation of it on page two or three of that thread.

I see no textbox at the bottom of my screen for anything related to search. The only thing with "search" on it I see is in the top right, and we both agree it doesn't work. Could you be more specific about where to find the other search option?

Oh and I never made the link between skulk on wall and play model rotation. I guess everytime i heard the latter term I thought of a play model just ... rotating, without any clear application to the game. Oh well, now I understand.

Edit: Nevermind I found it. I thought the bottom search option would be available in all forum pages, including threads, but it's only available in the main forum page.

does no-one read the webbed 1.1 thread? MonsE posted a VIDEO CLIP of the skulk orientation in action.

And first person orientation wont make it to 1.1 by the way.

I obviously read the webbed 1.1 thread since I pasted the two times model rotation was mentioned in that thread.

As I have said earlier, I never made the link between skulk clinging to wall, and player model rotation. I have talked to others who were similarly confused.

Submitted for your approval-- photographic evidence of a working search function, or a well crafted diabolical conspiracy??? <b>You decide!</b>

There was no need for that, Fieari. I edited my post to reflect the fact that I found the function on Apr 25 2003, 04:57 PM.

This latest reply of yours was posted on Apr 25 2003, 05:14 PM.

Perhaps you wanted to show your wonderful picture so much that you went ahead and posted anyways?
