<div class="IPBDescription">Or wait till it's done?</div>I've heard both sides of this story, both that testing is awesome and you get to see the game develop from scratch, and that testing is a look at the crappy aspects of the development and that you can't really appreciate the final product.

Personally, I think I'd prefer testing to waiting as long as the mod was good. (HINT HINT WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE!!!!!! <img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> Har.)

Well, I think playtesting is more my style, I like to dig out the options and features, just to find this little thing. I just love to help out.
But I don't care if Im not a tester, since I'm 100% sure the current testers are doing a FINE job!

I think testing mods is in my blood. Really there's something great about the feeling you get. No, it is NOT about getting to play something before other people, and if you are wanting to test for that reason, you will fail.

Its about you helping to make the end result a better game. And if you aren't coding, making a level, or modelling, then you can at least say "well I found this one major bug that no one else could track down, and now its fixed, and won't cause anyone any trouble". and at the end of the day the game/program/whatever is better for it.

This applies to anything really, not just programs, not just games, not just mods, and not just ns.

i wouldn't mind being a playtester but i know that i really don't have the time for it, i'm too busy doing school work and mapping and if i did become a playtester i'd rarely turn up at the playtests, i'd just use it to run around my map and test breakables and such.

Actually, you couldn't use it to that. Playtesters have no server files, so we can't even test our own maps.

i think the most of this foum want to be a playtester, because those how are in this forum are real maniacs or mappers, not those kiddys. But... if there is a need of playtesters, i want to be the first swiss playtester... *g*.. no, i realy want to be a playtester to test my map and help to make the game better.. dont forget me when you search a playtester

I dun think I wanna be a playtester, it's more fun to see the "completed" game if we use dat word.

But I'd luh to have the version 1 of NS to, as someone else said "run around in my map and test stuff"..

You cannot test your map using the playtest. Not that I have anything great to test mind.

I am happy that I was chosen to be a playtester, but im sure I could have waited. Even more sure now I realise just how good this game is going to be.

Would I rather be a tester? Yes. But something that other people are missing is that being a tester does not mean the wait is over. When you're testing, from what I've gathered, playing is fun but there are quite a few restrictions on play (i.e. can't play on your own, server's only open on weekends, missing features). As a non-tester, I'm kept well fed by Monse and all the things I hear from tester buddies. I will wait for NS to see the light.

Edit: I just saw the screenies from the latest playtest and...and... Well, let's just say it's getting harder to wait now <img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Have any of you ever played WWIIOnline? That was one big Beta test that you had to PAY for. grrrr....

What DOOM said is what i entirely feel about NS, i don't want to just play the game before others, its helping the mod and making it better that actually counts. Us playtesters are like rabid dogs, we suggest, and suggest, and suggest, all trying to make the mod better, basically, to test, you got to truly have the HEART to want to make the game better, not just the thought that, omgz i get NS before anyone else, ive been around here since the first playtest, and im still around, and i test everyweek, all the time. <img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I personally love testing... I've tested alot of games, one of my favorites being muiltiplayer battletech. and alost I would prefer to test because I have no social life since my ex-girl dumped me and turned most of my friends against me... so I just get to sit here thinking about how cool NS is gonna be, but in a way...that intense waiting helps by making it that much sweeter when it finally does come out, well either that or it makes it that much more dissapointing, but I doubt NS will be a disapointment
