Recording Demo While Someone Is Speaking

Crash only in NS?
Hey everyone,

I'm trying to track down this problem, and I need a bit of info. I thought this crash happened to other HL mods in the past, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know if this is only in NS, or if it happens in any other HL mods? If it happens in any other mods, which ones? Has anyone seen it in another mod, and then noticed it was fixed?

Thanks.

As of CS 1.3, the bug exists and is currently unresolved. I can't comment on the Steam beta or other mods since I'm speaking from experience only.

I rarely record in other mods because they have not the needed cinematic feeling most times.

Thou shalt not have strange mods beside NS.

I think the voice comm bugs when you start/end the demo while someone speaks...
I have heard of it but I've never seen it. It seems it's a voice comm system bug.
(If you have implemented the voice comm like the SDK documentation says then that's a HL bug).

Yeah, CS has the problem. I found people complaining about it on the CS forums over at counter-strike.net but sadly there's absolutely no posts on if the problem was fixed. I'd surmise from the lack of feedback that it is still unresolved.

I have recorded and played ns demos with audio on. The theory about starting/stopping when someone/you is speaking is likely correct. My demo with voicecomm is too large to attach to this post and not in avi/divx format. If anybody has doubts, I will link you up upon request. Or chat with me in irc.

    Yup, its all HL mods.

Nothing to do but wait for the next HL patch, is my guess .

I believe I've seen this in all mods I've played, only possible fix I can think of would be something which :mutes all: :record demoname: :unmutes all: and then :mutes all: :stop the demo: :unmutes all:
and even then I'm unsure if such a solution would work...

this is an incredibly common bug and probably the most well known (how did you not know details about it?) and easiest to solve,
either a) mute people at the the time you want to start recording, once you have started unmute them
    b) voice_enable 0 when you want to record, 1 once you're started
    c) tell everyone to SUYF
    d) wait for a quiet bit to record

    all very simple

[edit] and yes its with every HL mod [/edit]

I'm not sure if this will solve the problem since we don't know the source, but another suggestion to try would be "stopsound; record demoname". Stopsound temporarily stops voice comm and resumes automatically after approximately 1 second.

    Just a thought.
