It's not entirely implemented right now. The final version, to my knowledge: 1) Aliens can see each other and alien buildings, all the time. 2) Aliens can tell when an ally/building is under attack. 3) Aliens can see any marine (and marine building?) that any other alien can see.
so why would alians need eyes they could use pharamons smell and have really god noses lol screach that ill keep my eyes write were they ... damn there goes the left one
you're referring to an unofficial explanation of bob's sight being in his mouth but as for smelling instead of seeing, try it sometime *bump* sorry miss *bang* owe!
Well why just use one sense when the aliens have the ability to use both.
If the marines were smart they could mask their pharamons with alien pharamons. Though that would only work if the aliens only use smell to go about. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

Basically, an alien will see a marine if:
Nothing is in the way (line of sight).
Been marked by a Bob.
Another alien sees it.
