Okay, thanx. I am not really a noob been playing this since Gamespy did an article about it and have never seen it welded when I was on the marines. I have always wondered what that did. I thought that since it was the power the the satellite that something bad would happen to the marines.
Yup, after you have welded it, wait few seconds and you see a laser which hits on the wall. Then just shoot the wall few times and it will break. Then run in that hallway and shoot the other wall from the left at the end of that hallway. It will break too and then you are in satellite hive.
the tanith sat weld point activates a nearby orbital asteroid bombardment platform to shoot a nearby wall, causing it to explode. It allows you to skip a room and two very narrow twisty passages leading to satcom.
Note that the 2nd wall at the end of the passage needs to be damaged somehow for the shortcut to open. It might be a better idea to not damage the second wall and build your sieges in there, allowing for a suprise attack.
If you ever play in tourney mode: I learned the hard way that the explosion does friendly fire damage. You do NOT want teammates standing next to that wall when it blows.
Yes, I would also not recommend blowing up the second wall until you have some turrets/sieges built, but then again, the Alien team may blow it from the other end to.
also note that the ground will rock at the point that wall comes down EVERYWHERE ON THE MAP for BOTH aliens and marines, so if it seems like they have nades, think twice it may be the sat comms weld point.
Does the siege inside there actually reach the hive? I thought in 1.04 it's not quite far enough... It's enough to clear out some lame on the way though, then you can put a siege in the corridor nearer the hive (or even in sight of it )

We are talking about the corridor near Satcomm that sometimes magically opens up? Then a red lighted room appears where he rines always go to build siege?
You mean those aren't earthquakes? That rumbling always scared the doodoo out of me
Where is that weld point situated then? (I tend to avoid playing rines, so I dunno the riney stuff to the max)
thx
[/edit] TBH, I think Aliens should be able to do some of the "weldy" stuff the rines are capable of doing.... I mean bite a couple of eletricity cables so doors wont open anymore, jam the mechanics of doors... stuff like that...

hehe good. btw its the off-topic forum but that weld point creates a major choke point for the rines and could be used against them if aliens are good.

its a pretty cool effect. i suggest you try it out sometime
(whoever the person that thought of that was, all i can say is excellent idea)

yeah i like the idea of being able to munch some cables or electricty box's.......
maybe to make it fair you have to sacrafice yourself to close/open them up( makes it fairer as the marines have to have a welder)
It doesnt reach far enough, was too far even in pre-1.04
