Btw, i think this is coming along great, albeit Jamil did manage to post SOME advice with the faces on the crystal, I'm sure with a little work zerg queen it'll all come up nice <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I just read the first page, thou... just wnated to say that transparency in models is possible, even in HL and NS. U just need the new studiomdl.exe-file to keep the transparency.
any progress so far? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
4?! whoa man, the muta took up 3 and i thought that was a lot, try putting the repeated bits over each other so u dont have to use the same image again and again resized.

This is an extremely repetitive model; it should be no problem getting it onto a single 512x. Overlap parts that are identical (if you really wanted to save space, you could skin the entire crystal in the middle in two triangles, but that's probably a little extreme); it's a pretty standard method.
The crystal needs additive transparency, so it needs an extra image. The crystal should have an unrepetitive texture, the rest can be 4 times the same. good skinmesh.
Ok heres the mesh, 2 512x512 you are right it shouldnt take more than 1, but its my first and i found it easier this way I guess, go try and skin it.
maybe this will get done! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
btw, is it possible to make the crytal transparent? that would be awsome.
zerg_queen: here's a tip on skinmeshing models with repeating peices.
Those tips around the crystals.. they are all the same right? ok In that case, the right thing to do is skinmesh when the model is actually not 100% done. By that i mean, model all of the peices which are unique in shape, and then model the repetitive stuff only once, and put them somewhere where they are aligned perfectly with the XYZ axis (no weird angles).
Then skinmesh those part.
Then, copy/paste the repetitive parts all over the model where they need to be.
After that, simply select each peice, and add the same skinmesh file to them. Voila! EACH of them share the same .bmp and same skinmesh.
Saves a lot of time, PLUS, since every peice is using the same skinmesh, you can make it a LOT bigger in the .bmp and have more detail! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
umm wat do u have to rename it too ? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

dont worry about the lines, they will be gone
I dont know how to compile it or anything, hoprfully someone else can take care of that.
anyone interested in skinning it? shouldnt be too hard.
and I dont know about animations maybe someone can do that too, (make the rings spin while upgrading and stuff like that)

It's not done yet, that's just the skinmesh, someone needs to skin it.
