How did the aliens get their names?

But when I try to follow the link, it gives a CGI script error.

I know that the level 1 is Bob, level 2 is Fatty, level 3 is "The flyer", level 4 is Blinky, and level 5 is "really big".

Can anyone who knows clarify the names, and maybe tell me how they got them? I'm bored at work, and need to be entertained.

    though they were mostly names before I came here from what I can tell once bob was names, every time a new alien became available they chose a name, I came around when they named level 5 tiny

    1: Bob
    2: pudgy
    3: "the flyer" aka batty and a few other names
    4: blinky
    5: tiny

    2: made fat since it coughes up the materials for building from within it

    3: it flies

    4: it blinks

    5: it's HUGE!

    Molecular came up with Bob.  To be honest that's the only name that has REALLY stuck and worked it's way into everyday usuage.  Although, I love the name Pudgy.  With the exception of Bob and Tiny the names are all pretty self explanatory.  I think Tiny was so called simply because of the irony.

    Agreed. Bob, "Flyer", and Blinky are the one that are most common, in that order. Bob is easily the most prominent. Bob is where it's at. FOr a detaield story (most of it, Im sure, will eb made up on  the fly) Just PM Molec and say "Oh Genius Moleculor, please tell em the tale of How Bob came to Be called BOB"

    Someone suggested "Stinky" for the level 3 because of his propensity to spore cloud marines into submission, but I personally like "Polly."

    Yeah...  uh...  None of those names are final.  <i>Especially</i> not "bob," which is just such an awful nickname...  ugh.

    My thinking is that the official names will be given when Jeff gets around to writing and releasing the alien backstory.

    I think better names will come into use when the alien abilities are finalised.

    Level 3's are still just 'fliers' as far as i'm concerned.

    Bob is just this generic name Moleculor has for 'things', which he suggested when folks were look for names of this critter.  It stuck.

    Tiny for the irony, definitely the irony.  This might change if he shows up some outstanding ability.

    I've started thinking of the marines as Joe for some reason...  now where did I pick that up?

    These names are in no way offical.  Offically they are still levels 1 to 5.  Hopefully Jeff (NS team writer) will come up with some offical scientific latin names for them.

    Somehow I don't think 'Polly' will take off (pun intended), at least until the proper player model makes it in.

    I definitely think the aliens should have names from mythology (greek, roman, norse, egyptian, celtic, take your pick).  But then, y'all have already heard my shpiel.

    From an eariler posting at <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=2328;st=10" target="_blank">Alien Formal Names</a>, here's what I thought was good.  Thanks goes to Biomechanoid.  I believe that I'll have to change the verb from infinatives to either gerunds or gerundives though.  If I recall, you drop the -re and add -ns (I'm going to check with one of my friends whose better at Latin than me).  So it should be...

    "Peregrinus validus Parvus" or Small Powerful Stranger= Bob
    "Peregrinus validus Obesus" or Fat Powerful Stranger= Lvl 2
    "Peregrinus validus Avolans" or Flying Powerful Stranger or= Lvl 3
    "Peregrinus validus Abiens" or Going away Powerful Stranger= Lvl 4
    "Peregrinus validus Colossicus" or Huge Powerful Stranger = Lvl 5

    Translations might sound weird, but remember humanity's Latin name translate to "Wise Wise Man."
