Blue Screen On Shut Down After Playing Ns

<div class="IPBDescription">Graphics card related</div> Normally when I shut down my computer, it's fine.

However, if at any point since starting windows I have played the amazing NS, on shut down I get a blue screen and it locks up, not even responding to Ctrl+Alt+Del.

Gameplay is always absolutely fine, even in multiple seperate sessions. Just when shutting down, it hangs on this blue screen.

After a game of NS, Windows becomes unstable. After maybe half an hour to an hour, Windows will one-by-one illegal operation on all running apps, and if you last long enough it stops refreshing the screen properly - closed windows are imprinted on the desktop, etc...
Memory leak?

I know it's to do with my graphics card (GeForceII 32Mb MX) but I have the latest drivers I can find, and NS config settings don't make a difference.

On a related issue, running the game in Direct3D acts weirdly with the controls - all your movements take about 2 seconds to actually happen in the game, making walking up ladders nearly impossible, etc. OpenGL is fine (which is what I run in).

Anyway, I'm willing to pay the price of this because NS is so good <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Just these niggling problems are bothering me.

Thanks for any help.

ok, your are POSITIVE this is NS related?

    have you:
    1) restarted comp then started NS then wuit then shut down?
    2) restarted comp, opend up ANOTH HL mod quit, shut down?
    3) simply left your comp running for extend periods of time?
    4) done the same as 1/2 with another game entiely?

Also could you give us ALL of your sysspecs please?

    thanks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Ah, it seems playing Half-life alone, and not NS, also does this.
As for your other points, though, my computer is stable for extended periods of time normally. It's a PIII 600MHz with Win98SE, 256MB RAM, nVidia GeForce2 32MB MX.
Sorry, the problem doesn't appear to be NS-specific only - can you offer more help anyway, or should I go to a half-life forum?

hehe, no worries, I just was rather sure that if NS did it the rest of HL would probably also (the rest were fall backs <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    ok lets see.

Honestly it is just such a screwy thing I would say the first step is a clean reinstall.

well, actualy update ALL your drivers and make sure you are upto date for win98SE. If that don't work then try the entire reinstall....

it is an interesting prob, Iwould suggest waiting around to see if any one else comes up with an idea before you reinstall. But in the meen time start ReDLing patches (assuming you don't have them backed up) so you will be ready if it does come to reinstall <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    good luck.

oh, one last idea, try killing all non esential progies as soon as windows boots, then start HL kill it and log off, see if there is another progie playing with HL or sometihng.

I had this problem with Unreal 2 ( blue screen on shut down after playing it )
    ...
    And still do I suppose...
    hehe
    Anyway don't cry about Direct3D
    Blows in HL...
    hehe
    And about the drivers
    Maybe you're using detonator 43.45 ? ( latest )
That messes up many computers ( including mine and I have the same card as you )

    I have a Geforce Mx 200 32 mb too.. Which Geforce 2 MX do you have? 100 / 200 / 400???
I run in WinXP with the 40.72 drivers (atleast I guess)... no problems with me...

I have the GeForce2 MX-200. The driver is version 4.12.01.0776, I can't remember the exact name/distributed version of it.

I try to always keep my computer very 'clean', there are very few apps running on startup (antivirus, couple of windows apps). I only installed Half-life and then NS a few weeks ago, and it's been a persistant problem as far as I can tell.

Thanks for your help so far...
