Im rather new at modeling, I can mesh, skin and model from scratch, I mostly create Hackjobs and convert stuff, but for those fond of this, I can't render with Gmax, can I? Deep Explorations Render function is more worse than King Kongs scrotum, and I'm NOT, I repeat, I am NOT gonna pay $3000 for Max, NO WAY IN HELL, there is no way all of you who have max have bought it, you pirate **** :O

Please, there is no warez or software pirating discussion allowed in this forum. Milkshape is a great program that has a 30 day trial and only costs $25. Get it at http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/

As far as I know Gmax has no rendering functions, just wireframe, flat and smoothshaded.

What about Brazil Rendering thing. It is suppose to give better renders then Max and I believe it is free.

I have Max version 4.5, it's licensed by my school, Brazil Rendering System is a plugin for Max.

I didn't discuss warez, I was just asking about rendering systems, I have paid for both Milkshape and Deep Exploration (DE is perfect for converting formats to a whole lot of others)

Why is rendering so important anyhow? While nice renders look cool, they won't really affect how anything looks in game.

If you can be bothered converting the files to a suitable format, Blender and OpenFX have render functions ( I prefer Blenders, but OFX has nifty post production effects..), failing that you could use something like POV-ray? Check modelling 101, it has links to loads of freebies. It might take a bit of hopping between programs, but I'm certain you'll be able to get a decent render out of it if you're willing to put up with a bit of hassle.

Edit: Eh? I thought max had a renderer built in? never used it myself though..could be mistaken.

Edit2: If you happen to have a copy or demo of Bryce, you could import the object and use that? Bryce has a lovely renderer..it's a kinda weird way to go about things, but I bet it'd work.

brazil is no longer free as it has (like dod) reached version 1.0 im not sure if there are any free example builds on the splutterfish site anymore, incidentaly brazil is a renderer for 3dsmax (it supercedes the default scan line renderer) and is not stand alone.

Na, the free version is down on the splutterfish site at the minute.

    I looked earlier.

    Might be available elsewhere though.

brazil is just a fancy renderer for max, and thus, still requires max. it wont work with gmax
