<div class="IPBDescription">what do you think?</div> Would a map, that is NOT on a spaceship and NOT on a mining colony or something, be kewl??
(like for example: a snow-covered colony, an under-water facility of some kind)
That is my simple, yet intriguing question to you...
Let me now what you think...

Some more underwater-levels may be cool. Though it is only natural that aliens have a hard time infiltrating a complex hundreds of meters under water. A gorge would have to build a real big tower of def chambers to get down there.
How do they spread anyway?!? Do they blink 10 million light years throug space or do they have space crafts? If not some humans must have picked them up and delivered them wherever they want...hmm. After all that thinking I would want a map that is set on the planet where this first expedition picked up some aliens more or less free willing. There would be a lot of animals for the skulks to eat, cause they are obviously raptors. And of course evolution made skulks most fit to their environment. So the level must consist mainly from holes and ledges <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Oh and all this skulk-food needs some plants or insects to eat and the resource-nodes of course can not use this platform model.
NerdIII, as I understand it the aliens are spread in the form of microscopic bacteria, which collects and grows on surfaces under certain conditions, when it reaches a critcial level it can construct larger more complex organisims from genetic templates stored in the hive-mind. By the time the marines can resond to the bacterial infestaion it has created an organisim the size and sophistication of a hive, which can them pop out a skulk sized creature every 3 seconds to defend itself. Without the external threat from humans the bacterial hive-mind wouldn't create and warrior creatures (skulks etc.) at all.
I did this for a simple reason:
1.) I got bored of those "space" and "red planet" and decided to use the HL-standard sky "night".
This sky fit perfectly to the ambience/lighting I used in the upper parts of the map (near Marine Area) and also gave me the idea for a little different kind of ready room:
There is no flying (Lerk or JP) possible in the RR, so it's the only place a mapper can create an outdoor area in a NS map... so I did (still working on the RR, screens to come soon in my ns_plato thread).
Hyper
btw: it's not a mining colony... it's a research facility <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I got it...
I remember your post from a while back about the map. In a way, it's a good thing that nobody gets it- it makes it seem less gimmicky.
The map I'm currently working on takes place on a snow planet (it's a fusion power plant.) In many maps, you wouldn't be able to tell where the game takes place, because there's little to no hints other than the location names. I'm planning to have the scene take a little bit more of a role in this map, though (I'm planning observation areas, broken walls with snow leaking in, and details of the fusion cycle.)
Looks pretty crappy right now, but when i am happy with it (give it a year or two <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) itll be released.
ns_Sikarra might be a better name <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

lol, nice one <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
I think I'll use that name for the planet (the map will be named ns_plato anyway, because it's set in the "Plato Research Facility") <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I assume your talking about ns_hydrosity
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Snowed in colony has been done ( and done well ), sorry I can't remeber the name.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm going to take a stab at the million dollar question. Would it's name be ns_frigid? (well apart from the done well part, IMO it was rather crap)
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> tell ya what we dont have for now. a map with MUCH lava, like a geotermal power plant.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
ns_frigid had one of these and it probably will when I finish rebuilding it.
But this doesn't mean that I have 'dibs' or rights on either the snowed in facility or the dripping wet facility themes. It just means I did it first.
and with aliens style coridors and labs
