<div class="IPBDescription">I'm thinking of upgrading</div>I currently have a 3d Prophet 2 Ultra 64 (GeForce 2)
and am looking at upgrading to a GeForce 3 or 4
I know that the morpheus Card for the GeForce 3 is the most kick ### put out, but I'm wondering what's the best card for the GeForce 4? I've heard the Xtacy (or however its spelled) chipset is supposed to be badassed, but I haven't seen any comparisons to other GeForce 4s... any suggestions? BTW, my budget is $350...

not the MX becouse that is just a overclocked gf1
with ur buget ur prolly able to buy the Gf4 Ti 4200 or the 4400
both cards are exelent cards
check www.madonion.com to see how much faster your pc is with certain 3d cards
see. the morpheus GeForce 3 card has the same benchmarks as one of the GeForce 4 cards (I think it's the MX by hercules) which shows that the board manufacturer matters... I'm wondering who makes the best GeForce 4 card out there and if it's in my budget, if it's not... then I'll probably get the morpheus GeForce 3 card
BTW, NEWEGG has pretty good service imho. Was a very easy process ordering my stuff.
It should be priced around $220.
On the other hand, you can grab a PNY Geforce4 Ti4600 for around $355. (That's what I just bought.)
(Note, I am from the UK and so currency conversions are not entirely accurate, but are rough estimates.)
Basically, if you've got the cash, you'll want a GF4 Ti4200 or upwards. Do NOT get a GF4 MX as they suck. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Cost me about 250 €, works like a dream.
I'd definately go for a GF4 instead of a GF3 though. They have a much better processing system, and twice the speed for pixel shaders. (The funky technology that'll make extremely awesome graphics in games to come, eg, water which refracts light and ripples realisticly.)
Also, with the GF4 4200 at such a low price, you can't NOT get it. Try and get a 128Mb version though, if you want to run at higher resolutions.
PNY? Xtcay? some other brand? that's what I'm trying to drive at. there are noticable differences between cards that use the same chip set, but I can only find the actual benchmarks for the Ti4600 using the Xtacy card, and am looking for other cards using the same chipset.
Merk: do you have the benchmarks for your PNY?
Banish it from your mind.

Make sure you look at the triplehead montor: <a href="http://www.matrox.com/mga/products/parhelia512/technology/triplehead.cfm" target="_blank">http://www.matrox.com/mga....ead.cfm</a>
Words fail me.

I've got various Matrox cards (including two in my main PC) and I've always been very impressed with them. I was worrying about having to switch to nVidia to be able to play stuff like Halo and Doom 3, but then Matrox answered my prayers... <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
<b>30-bit colour. Multiple 3D-accelerated monitors. Oodles of visual quality enhancements. Drool.</b>
The initial OpenGL drivers were of somewhat dubious quality, but they've finally sorted them out. Runs Hammer absolutely perfectly. Shame it took a few years to do so. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
From the information on the site, it looks like they're putting a lot of effort into OpenGL this time - triple-headed Quake 3, anyone?
Of course, whether I can afford such a card is still something of a mystery. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
about 3% faster than the Nvidia card
and a big silver cooler on it <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
nVidia rules all!
Really, who has 3 monitors? I sure as hell don't...
