I've got a short-haired cat named Amber who likes to pay me visits from time to time while I'm on the computer. She has a habit of jumping on the monitor and staying there (I think she likes the warmth). She does tend to leave a lot of hair up there.
Um... can anyone tell me if it's going to be bad for the monitor to keep this up? I would kick her off, but... there isn't actually any room on my desk other than on top of the monitor.

The first is Orange peel. Peel an Orange and
stick the peel in a bowl on top of your pc. Your
cat will avoid that spot for as long as there's a bowl there.
The second is Double Mint chewing gum. My cat once
got a little too nosey when I was unwrapping a stick
and I think the minty-freshness was too much for her and she bolted.
Give them both a try, they're not doing your cat
any harm but if too much cat hair gets into the
top of your monitor then it's a fire hazard and can
damage the monitor.
I was wondering whether the cat hair was going to break the monitor or something.

I suppose if you clean it often you'll be fine.
Personally I hate it when my cat sits on the Monitor
because her fluffy tail (Half-Persian) gets in the way <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Just remember to clean it often (both of em).

buy your self some compressed air, spew it in there when ever the kitty has been on it and you should have no probs <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
My suggestion: seeing how you like your cat's presence, I suggest getting a heating pad and putting it on your desk. If you don't have enough desk space for that (or if you prefer having the cat on top of the monitor rather than at desk level) get some sort of mesh that lets warm air out but keeps hair from getting in, and set it up however possible over the monitor.
get some thin mesh chikan wire and wrap your moniter <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
attached is a very very bad picture.. black is wall/desk, red is monitor and blue is an L-shaped shelf bracket. Connect the front of the L-brackets with a peice of wood and cover is some sort of tough fury material.
result cat cant sit directly on monitor so no fire hazzard or reduced lifespan of hardware or cat. Cat sits in hammock and is happy.
rofl, that's actually a pretty fun thought... a cat sitting on an LCD monitor..
