Alien Sabotage

instead of trying to take over the map
I was commanding last game... and I've come up with a plan to ease up alien rampage in the first minutes.
you'll want to leave 20% of your team defending and building though, especially if you do not use turrets in your base.
this is..to send your squads not to take over resource spots or hives but to destroy enemy gorges instead. where the gorges first go is often predictable, if not, just have the team scout around until you find it. you should be fast enough so that they cannot afford offense chambers yet.
the kharaa have a much easier time countering your attempts to take over hives or resource spots at the beginning of the game than suprise attacks on their gorge. after killing 3-5 gorges, this will get seriously harder, so start taking the hives. you should have enough money for phases and a turret farm now, and the kharaa are lucky to have a defense chamber. scan for the enemy gorge, if you find it unguarded, send a squad to take it out.
your best bet is to assign a squad of people at the beginning of the game and always use those people, they will be suprised of the effectiveness of this strategy after a few raids, and will get good at it.

I did that off my own back today much to my comm's delight. I took one other guy with me and we boon down gorges everywhere. It kicked enormous amounts of cellulitey alien arse.

This is actually one of the few things that seem to work better for super-sneaky ninja marines rather than teams. If you give the gorge a false sense of security by sending the majority of your forces somewhere he isn't, he might not have much of an escort around, and most of the skulks will not be withing running distance to save him. Quietly work your way to the gorge, and you have an easy kill. If, instead, you scare the mess out of the gorge by sending a team at him, he'll start sticking with the skulks or laying down lots of OC's (and it's usually better if he doesn't).

But yes, if you can figure out the movement patterns of the average gorge, you can do terrible damage to the poor sap whenever he leaves the base. Knowing the maps well helps too.

Another fun thing to to is give a ring some mines and have him mine res nozels, its hilarous when a gorge doesnt see the grey mine at the grey nozel and kills himself

actually...a skilled gorge will flee when he hears footsteps and always make sure t have a skulk to cover him...at least long enough to flee...

After 1 or 2 RTs you get DCs and then the gorge hardly ever dies...

This is what I've trying to say for a long time. Marines going rambo hunting down gorges > whatever lvl1 aliens do.

yep. If I gorge, i make sure to try to pick a resource nozzle close to the hive, and ask for a skulk to be my bodyguard if I think the hive isn't within running distance on my own. For example, if I build an RT at south loop I will ask for a guard.then, if I hear footsteps, I will backoff, and tell the skulk to get into an ambush spot and wait. If no marines come, I continue building. If they do come, the skulk sacrifices himself for me, and I yell for backup from the rest of the skulks to save my tower. If it's only one marine, I will stay and fight the marine even with no cara if I have one skulk with me.

Gorge killing is mostly damaging when done very early into the game, typically before aliens build their first RT. After that it's mostly an annoyance and doesn't slow them down too much.

What I've been doing lately with relative success is RT assassinations. If the comm drops me a JP/HMG but I find out that both the hive aliens are building up and the one they started with are too well defended (lots of OCs, lerks, maybe even webs), I go on a res hunt. The idea behind this is while they will have their 2 hives, they will not have the res to afford fades.

Fly around the map, and empty a HMG clip into RTs at point blank. This is enough to kill them and gives no time for aliens to react and defend them as they will go down in about 5 seconds.

In 1.1 I'm going to start mining empty res nodes and chuckle when a gorge comes to suck on it and instead eats a mine. in 1,04 it doesn't work as well because gorge spit can blow up mines in 1.04.

a decent gorg can take on a marine any day (unless it's an upgraded marine, but we're talking early on in the game here). But a marine that is sneaking around can hear the gorg building, then burst out. There's nothing worse than being caught off guard as a gorg.
When i knew who the gorg was on an alien team, i heard building and i hid round a corner, then typed in "Boo!" and the gorg goes "eh?" then i jumped out. Actually this is what I do all the time as a 'rine... I jump outta the base and scout for a hive, once it's found I burst at it. Causing all the aliens fall back to their hive searching for the culprit while I hide away... This can be even more effective than gorg hunting, because teasing the hive usually causes the gorg to fall back too, which is almost as good as taking him out.

I also tend to crouch INSTANTLY when I hear a skulk step nearby, and instead of hunting the skulks I try to bypass them if just possible, and then tease the hive again and again until they fall back and stop expanding for a while which buys time and res for my team... I recall once sneaking to Loop access in ns_eclipse and pistoling out a skulk from roof then lmging the gorg and knifing their first unbuilt RT. Then just tease away at maint hive, making those aliens furious and mad, forgetting their goal and taking hives while my fellow 'rines lock 'em down.

Also if I'm parasited, all the skulks think now I'm dead... Then I start "running away", luring even 3 to 4 lv1 skulks to a certain death. I remember in ns_hera aliens had a hive in DCD so I went in and teased it a little... One skul parasites me and then I start running around all the way to holo, own a couple of skulks from a distance while couple of others stay lurking, then to processing and 2 easy take outs again and whoops I'm at DCD harassing the again and again. On another occasion I remember our totally newbie team win because I kept getting easy lv1 skul kills and running away and picking another route back when parasited which frustrated them and they quit until the game is over

Another good thing in harassing the hive is to sometimes make that poor gorge panic and make OC's instead of DC's... IN THE BEGINNING! Especially if you win a firefight against a few skuls near the hive. You can bet what my fellow 'rines are doing all this time

Aliens are just so damn weak in the start, maybe this changes a little in 1.1

Oh and you can bet that poor gorg won't hear it coming from meh

I still like just killing the gorge at the beginning. slows the alien team lots.

If you have people out hunting Res it might wrk for a short while, but what do you do if the aliens get to a hive instead of capping res?

Spreading out as marines makes you vurnerable, even if the alien team dont realize it...

Aliens with 2 hives but no res to often go back fade/lerk after dying as one aren't much of a threat.

i have often encountered that marines ignore aliens RT... amazing.. they just think that the alien RT is usless and he is only job is to keep marine RT from that point....
gorge hunting is good and useful... it buy you lots of time... and BTW gorges usally go for the 2nd RT first...that's atleast what i do.. and then there would be always skulk near by
