Actually the New FX 5900 is much softer than it's predecessor FX 5800.
It is still louder than Radeon 9800 though.

Oh, FX 5900 is better than Radeon 9800 in terms of performances. The Empire strikes back.

So, with a 1,5GHz Athlon XP and a GeForce4 ti4400, I'll probably get 20 fps max. Yay.

Won't catch me playing Doom 3 for a few years until after it's release, I guess this means.

wow those are some serious low FPs (eventhough they are running doom3 in such a high resolution). Funny how Nvidia performs better than ATI

It says that it's the special id 'preview' of Doom III, which is likely the leaked alpha. Don't think the framerates will be that slow when the final, optimized version comes out.

It is stated in the article that this is a recent build of the engine. Not the leaked alpha version last year.

"NVIDIA and id Software (http://www.idsoftware.com/) were kind enough to give us access to a preview version of id's upcoming game DOOM III and let us benchmark it on a system furnished by NVIDIA. The 3D engine of this version is the most current build. "

It's time to upgrade.

My computer is reasonably noisy at the moment due to the 4 cooling fans on it plus the huge fan on my graphics card and I can just about tolerate it. Upgrading to an FX card would mean even more noise. People have likened the noise from its fan like a hoover and a washing machine having an argument. So I could have kick **** graphics card which would play the likes of Doom 3 and hl-2 flawlessly but i would never be able to leave my computer on overnight. I'd never get any sleep coz it would sound sound like that army have jus called in an airstike in my room.

Surely thats what most people do?

Turn their computers off when they go to bed?

Man.. it seems like game programmers are relying on hardware to make up for poor coding, I cant belive that a geforce4 ti4200 128 would score so damn low on doom3 It seems weird dont you think.. I wonder what I will get with my p4 2.4 (533) 512ram(1066)and Geforce4 (asus)

Its the same with game size, these new games take 1 to 1.5 gigs of space.. thats freaking outrageous. Programmers are just writing sloppy now, no one cares about slimming out anything anymore.

Another point to note, FX 5900 has a much reduced noise level (About the same as Radeon 9800 but slightly louder), it is cooling solution is NOT the same as FX 5800 (Aka the dustbuster).

mine has zalman stuff all over. My cpu fan is 92" my graphic card has a zalman thermal dissipation giant heatsink thing and my northbridge has a new zalman heatsink.

Oh and I can regulate my extraction case fans to accomodate my ears. You hear only the drives

PICS:

Graphic card (it's not mine but gives you an idea)

Processor heatsink/fan (the fan kind of hangs on top of the heatsink)
