Well... i hope it will not be fixed just before the realease, because it could change some things in tha balance..... Marines will be weaker against close combat aliens (how many times i attacked a marine on a ladder as a skulk and he wont die....)
Well whether it is intended or not is irrelevant, but it is too inconsistent to be considered anything which could stay in. If there were perhaps a hardened way to protect yourself a little better from attack, kind of like digging in or something that would be nice, but as it is its too dodgy and open to exploitation.
