Can a PT explain?
I must have missed the memo on this ability. What is it, how's it work, is it good? From what I've read, its a cross between hivesight and sense of fear... is that about right? If its not violating the NDA, info would be appreciated.

did I spell the title right?

EDIT
And before I get a chorus of "search!" from young'ns (points to member number and joined date ) I did search and I couldn't find anything. This forum was the first place I heard about it.

Phermones makes every marine leave a trail of particles that hover around for a short while. Theoretically, this could allow 'fast hunter' tactics in which an alien picks an enemys trail, follows, and falls into the rines back, but right now, it's pretty much unused as the new Scent of Fear (showing all marines within a small radius) is preferable.

Phermones + Silence = Deadly Skulk

Phermones, a great addition to the game I reckon.

Phermones is one of the abilitys you rarley see used, it is underpowerd and will hopefuly be reworked or removed

Thanks, sounds cool. though SoF seems better. This will be balanced I guess... is the idea final? What if phermones added an auto aim to make it more useful in combat? Just a thought from a non pt.

While I was and am one of the loudest supporters of the idea, I agree with Lux. My money is on Pheromones never seeing the official release.

    Hm

maybe pheromones could change name back to enhanced hivesight, working like the new scent of fear, and create a new sensory upgrade...

Pheramones leaves a 10 second trail of puffs that look like spores or umbra behind where the marine walks. While initially it sounds like a good idea, the Scent of Fear far outclasses it. SoF has great range and since it is able to show you exactly where the marines are it completly negates any use that hunting the marine through pheramones may have had. It's far more accurate. Not really the great addition to the game im sure it was hoped to be.

So in place of Pheromones, a new ability will be put in place that acts like a Predator-view for the aliens? So that aliens can see the heat signatures coming from the marines?

Hehe, just kidding...Toying with the idea, wishful thinking methinks tbh

The 2 "finished" upgrades for the sensory chamber are cloacking and scent of fear
One upgrade makes you invisible, the other makes enemies visible, its all about visibility.
Maybe the 3rd upgrade should be something not related to visibility.

I've long been an exponent of the idea that the third ability should be a counter to motion tracking.

"Porous Skeleton" or "Phase shift", doesn't matter what you call it, but an ability that either nerfs or reduces motion tracking by say, 7m per level. So a marine 13m away would not see a level 2 "Phase shifted" skulk, but a marine 8m away could see the blip of a level 1 shifted skulk.

omg i spelled it wrong, don't kill me please.

You mean making the alien ethereal or something like it?
Maybe the 3rd upgrade could give a passive % chance to dodge bullets from a distance, like if the alien was on a weaker version of umbra. If the marine comes closer, however, the % chance to dodge decreases until it reaches 0.

I like Grendel's idea. Remove Pheromones, combine SoF and 1.04 Enhanced Hivesight into one ability (call it Hightened Senses or something), and make the third ability Phase Shift. It would provide the alien a moderate degree of transparency (maybe 35% or 50%) at all times and, as a bonus, would defeat motion tracking except at very close range.

....this isn't an rpg. Also, please remember this isn't the S & I forum.

Well put Kenichi, though it's hard to recognize the fine line of suggesting and discussing about new abilities.

    Anyway, my suggestion is...

-Keep cloaking the way it is(though im not sure how it is in 1.1, I hope it's 100% cloak and the time needed for cloaking changes with levels)
-Combine Pheromones, Advanced Hivesight and Scent of fear. Then it might be as useful as other sensory abilities.
-There actually is no upgrade that would make your attacks more effective. What if the third sensory upgrade would make Kharaas basic attack more effective: "Predator instincts" adds 20%, 40% and 60% more damage to Bite, Spike, Spit, Swipe and Bite.

    And silence negates mt partly.

Yeah, this ability seems redundant with the new scent of fear, except scent of fear is much better, making pheromones obsolete. There seem to be better, more diverse possibilities for the third sensory upgrade.

I like the idea of the perma-clouds. A weaker version of umbra or spores that follows the player would be cool. As a backstory the gas could be released from special pores on the aliens' skin. Sweet. Or maybe it could release a weak "healing cloud." Perfect for the lerk in its new support role! But maybe healing should be left to the gorge.

I like the constant semi-transparent idea too. Or the anti- motion tracking idea. Ah, sorry, I know this isn't the ideas forum. I haven't tried pheromones either, just sounds like a nerfed sof to me, which is a wasted upgrade option. Hopefully it will just be a placeholder until a better sens upgrade is developed.
