Voice chat in Half Life requires support for input from your sound card at the same time as output to it. This is known as 'Full Duplex' sound.
Some card/driver combinations do not support this cleanly, so it is disabled by default in the WineX config file located in ~/.transgaming/config. To enable it, simple edit the config file and look for the 'FullDuplex' setting. Switch it to 'Y' to enable voice chat. If you experience other sound issues, you may want to leave this feature off, however.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
In reply to what DarkFrost said about the dedicated server, I've found that Linux boxes work great as servers. The reason they don't come back instantly is because there's a timer in the hlds script that waits a few seconds (so that if the server crashes on startup, it doesn't keep trying and trying to restart it). For remote administration, nothing beats SSH on Linux - you can log in to a text console and do practically anything with your server. It sure beats Windows Terminal Services (or whatever) which uses insane amounts of bandwidth.
Anyway, good luck <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
