Is The Glass Half Full Or Half Empty?

<div class="IPBDescription">ponder ponder</div> Is the glass half full or half empty?
If the glass was half full it would imply that the volume of water has increased to reach the 50% mark.
Whereas if it was half empty, water would have been removed to allow the water to occupy 50% of the volume of the glass.
So to determine whether the glass is half full or half empty, you need to know whether the volume of water has increased or decreased to reach the halfway point.

GG logic ^^

Since when did this problem involve water? I always assumed the glass was half full (or empty) of urine

The glass is obviously in a state of indecision, so I pour out what's left and call it all empty.

The glass is half empty. Not only that, it has a crack and its leaking.

    There is no glass?

Well if you poured the water yourself, and stopped at the 50% mark, then it would be half full.

If you were given a full glass of water, and removed 50%, then it's half empty.

the glass is never half full, nor is it ever half empty, on the infinite micro level, becasue as soon as you think the glass is at the halfway point, evaporation occurs instantly at the molecular level, and losing molecules means losing mass, thereby making it less than half.

    I know, Im weird

Sensible answer. Unlike some peoples answers.

Well if you want to analyse it on a molecular level, the glass is always full, because there is always one type of molecule occupying the inside of the glass (and the glass itself for that matter (and everything outside the glass too if you really want to get anal about it))

That's supposed to be the question they ask you to see if you're a pessimist or an optimist. I think if you're the latter, it would be half full. If you're a pessimist, you'd say half empty.
Because an optimist is a positive person, and a pessimist is sinister and follows Murphy's Laws of ... Something.

what if the glass was twice smaller? It'll be full :o

If the glass was half the size (same amount of water) it would be either twice-half-full or twice-half-epmty

    twice-half-full = full
    twice-half-empty = once empty = empty.

so the glass is half full otherwise you couldn't cut the glass in half while keeping a logical amount of water. Or something <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Half full. A glass in its typical normal state is completely empty, then once you add liquid to it, you're filling it. Therefore its half full. The real debate is kegs.

    50% of the glass' volume is occupied by water <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

70% of your body is occupied by water.

But I say "my body is 30% empty!!"

    .....yeah.

But as the 50% of the water has been drunk or spilled, it is in a stage of de-filling now... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

OK... if you want to debate this logically, lets go

You have your glass... at EMPTY the volume of the glass equals 0 and at FULL the volume equals 10.

Now you have your volume in the glass that is equal to 5 ... half... now since we all know how to round boys and girls, we know that 5 rounds to 10 and doesn't round to 0 so the glass is therefore HALF FULL.

    End of discussion!

    I'm REALLY thirsty now:
Anyway, its both half full, as the half of it that has water is full of water, presumably, and its half empty as it half of it is empty air stuff.

The answer is simple: It depends on if your pouring or drinking
