Gorge "drinking"

ey mate, care for a pint of res?
I've read the changelog, and I was wondering just how fast can a gorge "drink" from an uncapped res node? and if it's reasonably fast, what's to stop the entire team from gorging, res drinking, then getting whatever evolution they want?

Or was this ability removed in later 1.1 versions?

About how fast do you get res. And does it go to you or the team like an rt would. I would think it should slower than a res because those actually cost something

When the gorge sucks up resources, they get all of the resources. They get resources faster than they would normally get resources from the node, but they get less resources than the entire team would from that resource tower. So, building a res tower helps everyone to evolve, sucking up res only helps you to evolve. Plus, if you evolved to gorge to suck up resources, you would have to spend 20 resources evolving first.

Im looking forward so planting a sensory, then suckling my little heart out untill i have enough to onos. That will be cool!

Even if the marines don't notice you (using silence, etc), when they plop an rt down and 4 of them start building that will create a messy situation. Also, if you and everyone else on the team try sucking out resources, you will all get killed before you accomplish anything.

Another thing. If multiple gorges suck from the same nozzle then the res is divided equally among them.

Urrr... sucking resources? Could someone please explain this to me without using incredibly annoying phrases like: "Try search!"?

    No.

    Use Search.

In 1.1, gorges will be able to walk up to a res nozzle that doesn't have a res tower built on it and push the "use" key. This will give them res faster than one person could get res from a built res tower, but they will get less res than their entire team would get from having a built res tower.

It will be useful to have since the gorges can get resources faster. Then cap more nozels and build hives quicker along with the chambers.

Unfortunately for you and your team, it would take forever and you'd be the only one to get res out of that.
The reason the resource "drinking" rate lowers the more full your gorge is because people were doing exactly this, "sucking to go Onos," and the team doesn't benefit from it.

[edit]Here's what would happen if you did that: if you managed to survive the several minutes sitting there, you'd have enough to go onos, yes. But your team wouldn't have gotten the resources from having a res tower there. You'd go onos, your buddies would all be lowly skulks (or maybe lerks). When you show up near marines, guess who they're all going to shoot at once?[/edit]

Smarter gorges will drink resources, plant chambers, drink more, plant more, drink a little to capture the resource tower in this newly-infested area, and move on. The team gets a nice minibase, chambers, and resources, and all is good.

    I can see it now

The entire team gorging and fighting over res nodes so they can evolve to onos first.

They should. This is also outlined in one of the 'tales from the frontlines' and SHOULD be in the 1.1 tactics thread also.

Well, gorges are quite loud when sucking. Marines are tipped off that he's there because.. there is this sucking noise coming from this node! Its a gorge. Duh. Fire a few shots and gorge appears. Then you mow him down.
    Has any playtester tried this?

I think it goes both ways. If all the gorges are busy sucking away, then who will build defences and attack the marines? With no or little pressure from the aliens, I don't think it would be too hard for them to send a large force to tak e out the hive.

Remember that if 2 gorges try to suck on the same res nozzle, they get half as much. so if the entire wanted to gorge and suck up lot of res, they would have to spread out to all the open nozzles. it leaves them spread out and vulnerable to marine hunting squads.

When Gorge sucking was added, there was regularly comments such as:

Boz, stop sucking my node off!
darnit Monse, you hairy nipplemonstro, stop humping my node!
    Storm loves to suck.
    Comprox sucks!
(repeat every 20 seconds for 3 hours)

    Oh, it was humourous indeed.
