Ohhhhhh! You are good! I think the chairs you made really add to that room -- I am loving it. The broken pipe hive looks great. I really can't say things that need improved, beucase everything is near perfect. I like the textures and the lighting.. this is just really good! Once upon a bob..

Wow! This level looks great! There is not very much to criticize because it looks so perfect. However, in the 6th image, the room looks rather empty. Perhaps you could add some detail to the walls.

Mmmmmmmm... looks good! The overall appearance is very original. I like it!

That's absolutely amazing, very cinematic-looking. The ceiling in the third pic needs a little detail, but other than that I think it's awesome.

Those pictures looks great. You must have been working really hard to get it all done in four days. The only constructive criticism I can add is that in the second shot, the floor texture under the chairs may need to be scaled down slightly. Other than that, I love them all!

Well, someone's got to be the first to offer something critical... I think it looks very, very Halflife. The pic with the two pools could have come straight out of "Power Up" (when you have to pass a pack of houndeyes to turn the generator back on).

Mapping's nice, but I'm not getting a very futuristic feel, I guess.

very nice! ... there was leaping and marine killing all over for the enjoyment of the aliens, until...

as mentioned before your floor texture needs to be scaled down in a whole lot of the shots, and as mentioned before the shots do look really good. In comparison to other map shots though, the lighting looks a bit bland.

i thonk you need to break up the blue lighting with another coloured lighting, just in small patches, to add contrast.
• Black_DogBlack_Dog Join Date: 2002-02-10 Member: 190Members
it's very beautiful!
i like the architecture but i think the texturing must be improved scaling down the floor tex, changing the wall tex, u use just that and it's very boring, also it don't fints that much with the support/beams tex, like in the "water" room where the beams are a-fist-in-the-eye caused by bad texture choosing. for first i would change the ceiling texture!
also lightning,to blue, no contrast

Way to go Plaguebearer!
Very nice brushwork! Tho, I'm not to fond of your lightning usage. I think you should add more contrast, and use different sorts of colored lights.
But uh... that's it

Ow and btw, is it possible to use sky textures in NS?
• yesukaiyesukai Join Date: 2002-04-17 Member: 464Members
I dont like the lighting, the floor texture in about all of them are scaled too high, the panel in the second one is stretched, the cieling area in the third pic is too squarish for my taste, and again, the lighting is very bland. Add some flavor to the lighting and Ill like it a lot more. OF course, you dont have to care if I like it.

Other then that, nice job. Especially for 4 days.

Unfortunately the contrast adjustment washes out the colours. They really are better-looking in-game.

re breaking up the blue lighting - there's white lights around, too.

re the floor texture - it's not scaled at all. That's 1x1 scale; re the computer panels - they're all temporary. I despise those HL computer panels, but have yet to make a replacement.

By the by, the blue lighting is prevalent to help convey the fact that this is an underwater facility.

Well done Gwahir!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahaha, you win a cookie for that one. As for coil saying that it was too half-lifeish I could sorta agree, but I still think it looks amazing and that it fits the NS theme very well.

Maybe this was already covered, but are the chairs in that cockpit shot brush-based, or are they map models? If they are the former, then good job with the brushes

Also, I agree with some of the others in that the lighting looks kind of bland and flat in places... not a lot of contrast, and it could stand to be a tad darker... although I personally prefer to be able to SEE the impressive architecture when I'm playing The overall style of the map looks wonderful, though. Keep it up, I wanna see this map in release 1!

the chairs are models and they REALLY make the area so much more atmospheric
• PlaguebearerPlaguebearer Join Date: 2002-03-21 Member: 338Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
The chairs are .MDL files. I released them in a thread called "Give 'em the chair" about two weeks ago.
• CyonProCyonPro Join Date: 2002-02-02 Member: 154Members
Are they available for any mapper to utilize? Do you have a thread link or should i just go rummaging through the forums?

The floor texture that is set at 1x1 was released scaled up too high.

You have to shrink it.

There doesn't seem to be enough light/dark contrast in a few of the halls. all places should have at least two shadows, be them small or large. Shadows back in where Marines can't go don't count.

Your map is excellent so far! However I was thinking that in this shot you could have used more infestation on those pipes. The lighting is a bit "strong" overall in there as well. Also the water is a bit too clear.

The first pic is a bit light(but that's just me). I would like to compliment you on the blue "feeling" though.

I'm going to confirm what Plaguebearer already said. The map looks much, much better in-game. He sent the map to me the other night and I got to see it first-hand. I think the best word for it is: gorgeous.

when i looked at the map, to me all the pics looked too bright. now that could just be me, or maybe how you set your halflife up, but thats what i think...
• PlaguebearerPlaguebearer Join Date: 2002-03-21 Member: 338Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Hard to say. My monitor is pretty much shot - almost every pic i see posted on the forums, for example, I have to copy to a paint program and modify so that I can actually see mor than a black blur with a couple bright spots.
