Long Games

In 1.1i
I'm not usually someone who asks the devs for anything but this whole issue of game length has made me think and I would like to suggest that in a public match a long game suggests that the game is balanced. If you have a truly balanced game then every time one side gets an upgrade, the other team should be able to get an upgrade to counter that quite quickly. This is what was missing from 1.04, what usually happened was that the aliens got second hive fades, which they used to over-power the marines, and either the marines lost, or the commander researched lvl 3 armor and weapons, gave them all ha and hmg, which is obviously far better than fades, and the marines win the game (usually the marines are bottled up in the 3rd hive). Anyway I believe that in a pub match, a perfectly balanced game should take hours to win, as each side will be fighting on more or less equal terms. If however the devs still want short public games I would suggest making bases easier to assault, this would mean a team that gets an advantage, however slight, and for however short a period should be able to take at least one base with it and thus keep a slight advantage over the enemy.
On a final note I would like to say I love really long epic games as long as each side is making some progress, when the front line stays at the same spot for 2 hours is when things start to get boring.
I would like to hear everyone else’s opinion on this, I don’t want this to descend into a thread that gets locked cause everyone flames about how good/bad long games are. I would like interesting discussion about long games, why they occur, and how to reduce/promote them.

Every time the marines managed to get the front line a bit forward, then the aliens soon came and forced us to retreat. And not always in the same places, but the battle went on in so many places. every controlled hallway, corridor, chocke point and elevator was behind a huge battle which just kept going and going for ages. But damn it was fun!
In some points the aliens even managed to get three hives up and forced marines to retreat to old marine base or some other corner but the avesome commander just forced his team to strike again to gain few more resource nozzles which were used to restart the marine victory path. The Red Room, west access corridor of PowerSilo, secret phase gates, hidden DC's. They are all the soul of this game. The longer a game lasts, the more strategies the commander can plan and excecute due to the complex maps which are full of hidden secrets just waiting to be used by aliens or marines.
After hundrets of kills, suicide missions, onos runs, fade hit & blink & shoot situations, WoL's builded and defended by gorges and skulks and sooner or later destroyed by marines.. I can't believe that any short game could be that fun! And both aliens and marines really enjoyed it. Hope we can see the same in the future when the 1.1 will be released!
And request for the map developpers: More welding points, vents and more secret rooms (like The Red Room).

I prefer games that stretch past the 1 and half hour mark. - this happens rarely tho only had 2 recently, and ive played atleast 100 rounds in the last 2 weeks or so, coz they all so short.... only seen long games on tanith tho... when marines lock down sat and half of waste....
Games are in fact likely to be shorter in 1.1.
That is what they are trying to achieve.

And I just can't understand why that is.
I think that everyone can take differing sides on the feature changes in 1.1, but there is a consensus that longer games are preferable.
Not one person says, "Oh the best game I ever played in was that 15 minute game..."
Instead, they say, "Man, that 90 minute game on ns_nothing was just outstanding!"
Think about this please.
Although the other thing i enjoy is a good comeback from one hive to win.
I love the long games, lets hope the devs stuff up and they do become long games hehe. Nah all we wanna see is a great game ATM devs and so far your not doin too bad.

Although right now with 1.04, you usually have to play through 4 or 5 monotomous 30 minute autmoated games before getting to a nice long one.
What I mean by automated games, is where each round is practically identical. Hopefully the changes made in 1.1 will make NS more random and the rounds more diverse.
