Here are some shots of the hive I've been working on, "coolant exchange".

Here's is the ns world page for the background : link

Looks like you are creating a really funny map! Looks good, playable and fast! It would be a waste if you stopped working on it.

Not bad. My main complaint lies in the pipes--the textures could be aligned better (I know it's a pain to align around a cyclinder), and those abrupt right angles look strange. Also, there are few to no shadows, and it is imuch too bright for a hive. Other than that, you've got some interesting stuff going on there.

I'm having a little difficulty with the lighting. Things look a lot different on my LCD screen then they do on most any other montor. I just sneakernetted one of the shots over to my mom's computer, and it looks far too bright. I'll fix that as soon as my graphics card cools down.

Yes lighting is the only bad thing, consider useing muiltple lights to make a sorta of "mix " effect.

I like it, alot. And I like how it's the ONLY Map with lighting! Ha! But yeah, it's good.

Now thats a change, a bright hive room... Interesting take, it would remain to see how it would work gameplay wise. Looks visually excellent though, great work

Heh, I loved the marine res next to the hive in that pic. Marines and aliens, living together in harmony

Can i ask how do you get you wpolys to show up there because when i type r_speed 1 in the console it only shows up IN the console?

To get r_speeds to show up outside of the console you need to run NS in developer mode.

I don't know if this is the preffered way to do it but I run NS with a shortcut and put -dev in the shortcut...

those textures at pipes above hive doesn't quite fit, but no-one will notice it when you darken map

that room is a marine nightmare, Multiple levels, many places for skulks to hide, and a rather obstructed command view. better give that hive at least 2 exits. :x

If you just tone down the lightning and align the textures better in some places, it would look quite good. In other words: it's a good start!

I've reworked the platforms to be a bit more marine friendly. Most of the texturing is fixed. I've decided to choose pipe texture orientations that correspond to the position of the lights, in some cases in leu of perfect alignment. I would post a current shot, but my graphics card (fan died about a month ago) is becoming increasingly uncooperative. It's still under warranty, and I'll most likely be getting it replaced tomorrow.

In the meantime, I started doing some preliminary work for the ship logo. This is supposed to be a state of the art supercomputing beast of a machine, housed within a space station in an undisclosed location for security reasons. Here's a preliminary shot of the logo. (much higher res than in game obviously. I do these things in corelDraw first.)

I'm not sure how well this fits with the ns theme, and conversely, how I'm going to texture the rest of it without making most of the textures myself. I'm hoping to make large parts of the ship seem almost antiseptically clean with only the hive rooms and other infested parts of the map really feeling gritty. We'll see how it goes.

btw if anyone needs a logo for their map, I enjoy making them. Just give me some guidelines and a general theme and I'll see what I can do.
