Maybe it will already work from allone, since the marines will lose all the time if they have a crappy commander.
Instead of it being two console commands and higher level thinking required, it'll be an option on the popup menu.
Maybe. STC. It -will- be different from CS though.
No, we were planning on making a voting system that didn't work. Seemed like it would take less time.
Think about what you said. Then stick your head in a bucket. Then all will be forgiven...

You have to understand that NS has been built with an eye towards correcting 4 years of other mod's mistakes and oversights. The idea is that we aren't going to repeat them.
As for it working well, it's a silly question. Of course it will be designed to work well. It will not involve typing in the console or any of that other 'you must be l33t' ways other teams use. You can play NS without using the console <i>ever</i>. In fact, you can play NS with just your mouse and about 5 total keys, with full functionality.
We are taking a different approach. Just hang in there and trust us. If you want a thread about how they might have done things differently with designing CS, I'd start one in off-topic. I'm sure it will get huge in about .0001 seconds.

That's a bit harsh. <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->
I was commenting on my hopes that the NS vote system would <i>NOT</i> be exactly the same as that of CS, which does not work... AT ALL. I am glad to see that a pop-up menu voting system is in the works. Now I will go, and NOT stick my head in any buckets on my way out. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
The voting system will be completely visual and obvious, so most or all players will know when and how to vote. We may need to put up a blinking message that says "Would you like to vote "Moleculor" out of command? Use your pop-up menu to vote now!"
As far as percentage votes needed to kick, or the penalties for being kicked, we're just going to have to work that out and see what works.
most of the time they sound like this
Do you want to kick player
1. yes
2. no
now if it were to sound like
Player is not doing well as a commander, would you accept to throw him off the commander's post
1. Yeah boot the sucka
2. No, (insert some other insult here)
And maybe put the voter's name so if he's trying to vote he really does it for the team not because he's an ###, cuz if he is everybody will know... (eehh there's no reason to go on with this message)
PSt,<b>instead of training friendly servers there should be do-what-ya-want maps with multiple commander posts and pretty much no rounds just team firefights So everybody is free to do what they want</b>
Trust me when I say: <i>'None of us can understand a word you're saying'</i>. Please try to write a bit clearer, with an attempt to spell and use punctuation. You are only hurting yourself, as we can't make out your questions or comments, so you tend to be ignored.

I believe he is referring to the Sven Co-Op menus. There is a button you push to take you to a voting screen. Within that screen you can click on a playername to initiate a vote to kick that player or vote for a new map. Pretty well done, and it works wonders for Sven players that are trying to ruin the game (i.e. killing barney/scientists for those of you who've played it). Might be something to look into if this hasn't been decided upon yet. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
You're right on the money, HosieCow. Commanders need to be able to practice and learn the tech on their own. We're hoping to get a training level and/or training servers in the first version but it may have to wait until afterwards.
If we don't have enough time, we can at least write up a "new commander" guide, that explains the tech tree and how to experiment on your own (turning on various cheats and such).
Also, Soldier of Fortune 2 seems to do a good job with an easy-to-use voting system. Check that out too if you get an opportunity.
