Skulk Bite Distance

What is the maximum distance a skulk bite does damage (V1.04)?
I am asking since I had some weird experiences. I tested this at locally and I had to get quite close (I'd say 1-2 game meters). But recently I had been killed by biting skulks from more than 2+ game meters...
Or is that just a ping/ latency issue?
I mostly have a ping around 70-90 and netgraph latency is usually 20 msecs with fps being close to 100.
I'm also not the only one that has had the same kind of experience.
Have any of you been into "strange" situations like that?
Somewhat related, several times when playing as skulk, I stuck to a marine's chest biting several times without the marine dying (no health spamming)
I sometimes REALLY doubt these players are playing fair even though CD is on...

Test: Go up to a marine building when you bite it, it plays a bite hit sound. Take 1 bite then inch back, repeat this til you no longer hear the bite hit sound and you will see the aprox. range.

when as a skulk look up and bite, only the bite sound plays.
now go up to a wall and bite, you will hear the bite sound and the bite hit sound.
The bite hit sound is the only thing that isn't silenced in 1.1
<b>REMEMBER</b> I have yet to see a mined nozzle I couldn't attack without setting off mines. Use the range, use the wall, anything but KILL THAT NOZZLE.
I've heard all the excuses/tricks: hold duck, look higher up, bite sooner, the marine hitbox is bugged (esp. the heads and feet, THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS FOR A SKULK TO HIT), marine crouching is bugged, the skulk bite is higher when on the wall, marines fly 20ft when hit in air, etc. etc. etc.
I'm sick of having to rely on bite spamming just because of the apparent lack of playtesting in a higher ping-flux/ping-differential playing environment. (Just remember how LAGGY 1.0 was when first released, are you telling me they TESTED and released it, knowing it would be that laggy on most servers?)
If it's early in the game, I know it's 2-3 bites to kill a marine. I want to be able to pop out, get in close, and chomp-chomp-chomp, dead. Not pop out get in close, chomp-chomp-chomp-chomp, (mabey 1-2 bites connect even though I am running up his back), chomp-chomp-chomp-chomp-chomp-chomp, ok he's dead.
