The History Of Ns

<div class="IPBDescription">looking back...</div> Well I do have a few questions, perticulary(sp) to the dev team.

My impressions of 1.0 were just amazing. It was jaw dropping to see this kind of gameplay and style put into a professionaly-designed looking mod for HL. When I heard all the stuff about 1.1 I thought about how RADICALLY 1.0 has changed from it. I was just wondering if 1.0 was more like a public beta test to see how gameplay like this works out. To me it seems that way, 1.1 seems to be so different that it's like the way NS was supposed to originally be. So what sparked this MASSIVE turn around? Or was 1.0 even meant to be the full NS? I can see that changes from 1.0 were needed but 1.1 was very just unexpected for me.

So basically, was 1.0 used to just test out gameplay etc?
And what sparked such a turn around for 1.1? It seems like such a massive project.

Gotta keep people hooked. New and interesting things to do in NS keeps people coming back for more. Otherwise it gets dull and repetative.

No 1.0 wasnt a Beta test they did that for 6months prior I believe.

The radical changes in 1.1 are being made due to the fundamental flaw in 1.0x, being that aliens tech by aquiring locations, this led to things like the very annoying and boring 2 hive lockdown. In 1.1 while still requiring hives for higher lvl abilities can get higher lvl evolutions, pretty much making a 2hive lockdown pointless.

1.1 turns to focus back on Resources, aquiring and denying.

Some of the changes were implemented also to be more intuitive, ie: in 1.0x gorge got 3x the res as anyother alien so getting more than 1 at the beginning is harmful to the team, but a newbie won't know that. In 1.1 a newbie going gorge won't really harm the team.

Of course you need to keep the people on their toes to actually develop new stratergies. or at least offering multiple ways to attack and counter different ideas and stratergies.
