Alien Scoreboard

Yea or nay?
So far, the word is that alien scores have been removed from NS 1.1. I'm just curious as to whether the PTs (and vets) have noticed any changes in alien behavior (using xenocide more, hurling self at turrets, etc.) or if it's pretty much the same. To be honest, I like alien scores, just because I'm a selfish person who likes people to be impressed when I do well . Not having scores would only be a minor irritant, though.

Well, I'll say one thing.. It was the scoreboard that made me realize that I was sucking as a skulk and that I needed to start doing things differently.

I did, and now I'm a better skulk. Sometimes personal feedback is necessary for improvement.

That's actually raised quite a good point. I'm personally against the scoreboards alltogether, people get too fixated on their scores.

But the scoreboard displaying only your kills/deaths might be a fairly good idea, for the reasons you state.

I like this change, as it means that there will be less "You suck, you have a 1:10 ratio!" which is annoying, although it is rare. There should be a less emphasis on getting kills, as that's not really the most important thing. You want to control areas and keep the marines from getting resources, which is hardly represented by the current scoreboard. So keeping deaths hidden would generally be a good thing.

If you look at the marines side of things, I suppose you can kind of get a general idea of how things might work. IMO, I think marines care less about getting the kill and are generally more likely to work together. This might be due to other factors though, so I can't be sure if this will be the case with the aliens.

The main disadvantage I see with hiding the scores is of course the issue of not knowing who the "best" players are, but I don't think this really makes that much of a difference.

There is always server stats. Usually you can just punch the name of the server into google and see if they have stats. Or they might have the site listed in the intro.

Here's an idea: Personal statistics. It would be like server stats only it would go onto your own machine. You could check on it from the game console or maybe a HTML page in the ns folder. I don't think it would be that hard to implement.
