Uncapturable Res Locations

Can you build them?
Is there a way to build a resource point that exists and works, but is not capturable? Does the NS engine prevent a resource tower from being built if it will not fit into it's alloted space? Say, if it hits the roof above it or something would pass through it?

I was wondering this because I thought it might be interesting to build a res pool that gorges could drink from (maybe in the hive) but that was covered by a grating and could never be captured. I'm not certain how balanced that would be--putting alien-only res into a map--but it's interesting to think about the implications.

well there's no real point as in 1.1 wil allow gorges to drink from non capped res nofes.. so its kinda pointless.

Heh. Maybe I wasn't clear. This is exactly my point. These uncapturable res nozzles would be alien-only res. Gorges could drink from them, but they couldn't be captured by aliens or marines...

in ns_siege, there is a res node inside a buker that you can climb on top of. and that one can be built by marines

Yeah, but doesn't the ns_siege one have a high enough ceiling to fit the RT? Maybe a nozzle with a vent-sized ceiling, or close to it...

If it does work, it should probably be taken out... Though I guess it'd only be useful on the "fun" maps, it really should be considered a bug...

I would think if you stuck a resnode in a vent for example you couldn't build on it. The mapping forum might be a better place for this

I'm not sure but I believe they may sink, just like other buildings sink. I've seen it done in certain locations before (not telling where) and you could drop multiple nodes onto the same location and gather tons of res.

this post was jsut crying for a mappers attention, so here i am. The absolute BEST way to do this, imho, would be to just put a func_nobuild over the res node. There ya go, no reses can be built by anyone, and gorges can still suck

    This just sounds wrong..
But I understand your question #1 and it would actually be a pretty cool feature IMO.

hehehe fill a map with res nodes but make 95% of them nobuilds

put the node on the map under 12" of water, aliens can still build on it tho, but marines need flat dry land to build

    that sounds like easiest way...

Aliens can still build underwater and over nobuilds, so it wouldn't be a sucking-only node, just an aliens-only node. The only building restriction that applies to both is that the surface has to be less the a 45* angle. If you wanted a only suckable res node my thought would be to rotate it 90* and stick it on the wall facing into the room. That would probably stop both aliens and marines from building on it though I haven't tested it.

If you set the angle on a res node to -1 it will be rotated 90*, sticking it on a wall makes it uncapturable by either marines or aliens. Since it's still func_res I would assume a gorge could still suck on it in 1.1. This sounds like what you were looking for.
