Offbeat Rounds

Everyone has played games where the aliens rush the marine base and win, or when the marines jetpack a hive down, or when the aliens get the second hive and roll over the marines with fades. However, every once in a while, the games unfold into much more interesting adventures that you really remember. I'll share two of mine.

The map was nancy, and I was on marines. It was 2v2, and I was feeling risky, so I went for a LMG JP rush before I knew what my teammate was like. It turns out he was useless (doh), but one of the aliens was useless too, leaving me vs a competent gorge. My teammate also wasn't competent enought to comm, so anything I wanted build I had to place and build it myself. The gorge got a few offense chambers in the hive (port engine) very early and foiled my efforts of killing the hive. Then I decided to just fly about and try to kill the gorge enough to prevent a second hive, and kill any nodes I saw. After a little while, I realized that the gorge's teammate wasn't attacking at all, so I decided to risk putting up 2 unguarded resource towers. With the resources I upgraded the armory and got myself a HMG and went to try to take out the new hive at noname. Unfortunately the gorge was really on the ball and finished the hive before I got there, with tons of offense chambers. Through the webbing and the OCs I was quickly toast. Both hives were untouchable now by only one marine. Then I dropped myself another jetpack, HMG, and welder for the webs this time and went to kill all of the resource nodes I could and keep the gorge off of the third hive. I was pretty successful in killing the nodes. I would fly back, make an upgrade or two, give myself some health, then fly out again to counter the gorge's next expansion. Many times the gorge managed to web me down, but I always had enough for another set of equipment to fly out again. The game went on like this for about an hour, then finally a player joins our team and starts commanding competently! We sieged down port engine, then proceeded to mop up noname with our full upgrades and competent commanding.

Another game, I was on aliens. We were playing on nothing, and got the silo hive. Much to my dismay, they relocated to cargo easily. I then went gorge and made 3 res towers and 3 D chambers, then put up a hive. A helpful lerk brought me to the redroom, where I put down 4 offense chambers. I then defended the main viaduct area and when the hive came up, powersilo. After I put down some movement chambers, I hear the marines took redroom with jetpacks and grenade launchers. Soon they tear up viaduct with 3 sieges, leaving me very depressed. Then I decide to try and make the most of it, and go capture marine start, docking wing, miasma and generator nodes, with 2-3 offense chambers at each, and D chambers scattered throughout. From then on, every team member had and kept max resources. Then, to my surprise, a group of skulks and I are able to take down the marine base at cargo bay. We're able to get the hive going up with some basic defenses, when a JP HMGer takes down silo. (They had relocated to redroom) They also take down the building cargo bay hive, but we have boatloads of resources at this point, and we put it back up immediately. At this point we were just using delaying tactics. One teammate started the hive at powersilo but got killed, leaving only 2 aliens hiding in a vent. At this point, my friend who is watching me leaves because he assumes my team is screwed. Amazingly, powersilo finishes, with most of its defense still in place. I get to spawn, and go gorge. They take down the hive again, leaving only me and one vent-hider. I put it back up, get carapace, and stay close to my 3 defense chambers. With spit and my OC's I took down 1 JP HMGer, and about 7 vanilla marines coming into silo. Throughtout the round (mostly while I was dead) all of my O chambers were racking up kills. I had about 20 at this point. Much to my relief, the hive finishes, and our team is on its feet. Since the marines didn't have a node in their base, they had a hard time keeping resource nodes up. This is compounded by the fact that the aliens had a whole bunch of the resources defended. They had a phase up at cargo and some res towers, and our team managed to clear them out (a lot were jetpackers) and secure the hive. We get it up, secure both hives, and almost everyone goes fade and starts containing the marines to redroom. My friend comes back and asks "Is this the same game?" After working on redroom for a while, enough marines leave to give us the victory!

Anyone else have really weird rounds like that?

I think there should be a whole section for stories.... I see all these posts that I think might actually be about something to discuss but it's just a story. Stories are good and all, but every other post is a story :-/ I MUST FEED ON DISCUSSION!!

    Try discussing THIS:
The earth is round. Like a pizza.

Well, that's actually pretty true, oddly enough.

The earth is round, pizzas are round.
The earth has a crust, pizzas have crusts.
Dough makes the world go 'round, and you use dough to make a pizza shell.
The insides of both are usually semi-liquid and very hot.
Plate tectonics create fissures, pizza cutters make sections.

And if anything green is growing on either of them, it's time to throw 'em out or they may go on to develop sentient lifeforms. ^_^
