Must read for all Commanders, & Coders
Hey few things, I was watching some of the demos from the us vs nz match and really would like it if some of the people from that match could respond to this first part. First why did the aliens never press the marine base. I was amazed how 3 packs of mines scared off the alien team! All the pub games I played the aliens suicide into my base over and over throughout the course of the game. Was that actually a strategy of the aliens to keep out of the marine base? so much $ was freed up for the marines not having to weld or even rebuild buildings or replace mines that they could expand and even losing an rt or 2 and that was completely expectable b/c they saved so much more $ at their base!

Now the real point of this post, I really would like to see a great strategy site start up for NS. Kinda like that WC3 site where they have demos and articles accompanying each strat and a strategy discussion on each one. Tutorials, the works. I am quite well versed in PHP and have done a substantial amount of web work in the past, and have been involved with NS since before release so I have learned quite a bit. I would love to start up, or help to start up a great NS strat site but this is certainly not something I can do on my own. So if any one else thinks this is a good idea, contact me. Besides other people to build the site with we’d really need the community support to make it work.

If the top strategy minds of the community, the commanders for the top clans really liked this idea and were willing to contribute and work with generating and moderating content then we could really build up a strong site where commanders can come and discuses strategies and how to improve or break them and to create new ones to keep things fresh. This would be a great site for new commanders to really get a jump into the game. So again any one interested in helping with any aspect of the site, get a hold of me.

**EDIT** Of course there could be alien strats also for gorges and such **EDIT*

I don't know if you've got much experience with clan games, but the simple fact is, marines constantly apply pressure to the aliens and essentially keep them too busy to be able to attack marine base or even res nodes.
If the aliens attempted a base hit, that would me they have to bypass marines already pressuring their hive, leave a hive semi-undefended, possibly leave a gorge alone, and then risk having multiple deaths whenever they hit the marine base. Mines in tournament mode often blow each other in large chain reactions, so even if you're not near the one blown, chances are you'll still get nailed. 3 packs is more than enough to hold them off. Besides that, if base is empty, a commander can just jump out for a sec and shoot skulks attempting not to land on mines.
In addition, if multiple aliens are dead at one time, the marines just rush in and spawn camp them because they're already pressuring the hive.

Most generally any 1.04 strat you'll find is just pressure pressure pressure, jp/hmg if necessary. Alien's best counter is to do their best to kill marines and stop the pressure (easier said than done against experienced marines). If there are jp/hmgs, most of the team often lerks/gorges, does best to kill marines, and often attempt a counter hit at marine spawn.

was kinda thinking 1.1 would lend its self to more diverse strats but there are map specific strats and build orders and other tips that would really be helpfull for educating the ns community.

Exactly why we're waiting in anticipation for 1.1. There are variants of the strats I posted for different maps, but it usually gets played out the same way.

If you could make it like Blizzard's strategy site for StarCraft and WarCraft it would be amazing.
The only thing is that there isn't that many units and different strategies in NS.

Anything I could help you with? I'm not very well versed in the art of constructing homepages though...

Oh, and btw, ten out of nine are fooled by statistics.

Well im glad to see there is *some* interest in the idea. But the first thing i think we need to ascertain is whether there would actually be enough content for the site since the other guy seems to firmly believe there r about 2 strategies with very little deviation. I think you put it well Wheezer, there simply aren’t enough units for a wide variety of strategies, but I still feel there could be a point. We need as I said before, some of the top minds around the ns community to come together and figure out if there is enough, maybe flayra has a comment on this.

Well, it doesn't have to be complete strategies from start to win. There are a lot of map specific mini-strats like siege locations, good basebuilding and cool relocation spots. And the aliens could have stuff like optimal chamber placement and... and... hmm... okok.
But the thing with NS is that it is FPS as well as RTS, which opens up for a lot of personal strategies.
However, those might be harder to write a lot about and they aren't really much about overlying tactics but more about standard FPS skills.

But the thing that makes SCC so cool is it's professional look. It has all the stats presented in a neat way with nice graphics and easy to comprehend sections.
If you manage to create a similar construct with cool pictures it would probably be very popular.

Ya i still think it woulc be done well and ahve enough content, let see who thinks its a good enough idea to actualy volenteer their time for either generating content or help actualy build the site.

i think it wouldbe a great idea best of luck withit....

but i would leave it till 1.1 before you even think about it thoguht.. cos it will hoepfully be alot more strategy involved..

I think this game's problem derives from the fact that a couple of tried & true strategies work almost all the time, such as JP & HMG, so that a different approach proves obsolete. For example most aliens tend to build defence chambers first. Now I know some people here go with a sensory first approach, but that strategy works poorly with experienced marines.

So build order tends to go - Defence, Movement, Sensory for aliens. And JP & HMG for marines.

It doesn't give any REAL room for deviating successfully.

I've stopped going the JP HMG route in scrims now, it's just so boring. Therefore i've cooked up tons of strats that don't involve them and have seemed to work rathjer well, also surprises the heck out of the aliens when you aren't JP'ing into there hive 5 or 6 minutes into the game.

I'll help, but there again you already know that

I already made a program for creating strategies, look here -> http://www.mercior.com/sp_about.shtml . It could be used to make screenshots for the website at least

A site like this would be great for NS if 1.1 does actually throw in some variety to the game. I got my Orc strats (5 grunt rush, caster rush/ etc) from those WC3 websites and always enjoyed looking at the new strats. But as many people have said there isnt really that much in the way of strats for NS.... common 1.1!
