Terra Nova came out years before Tribes and was open landscape, I'm pretty sure there were others before it, and we must be playing different Morrowinds, as the interface in the one I'm playing kicks ****.

1) Tetris. It eats my brain and fingers, and sends me off crying to easier puzzlers like Tetris Attack/Pokemon Puzzle League, Puzzle Bobble, Gem Fighter, and Magical Drop III. I've avoided even trying Tetrisphere (on the N64) as I fear it might manage to somehow grab me even worse than the old green-screen gameboy version still does, even on my GBA.
2) System Shock 2. Nothing... and I mean <b>nothing</b> beats Shodan for a video game villain. She's *always* freaking there. Watching you. Following you. Talking to you. Psyching you out.
3) X-BTF/XTension. Like Freelancer? Like Starlancer? Try the sequel a few steps down the line (and expansion pack therefor) to the game that started it all... Elite. Not making enough money? Save up and buy your OWN freaking space stations. Buy fighter wings to defend them, cannons and such, AI cargo freighters to ship the products around and automatically collect money for you. Not to mention a REAL economic system.. none of this predefined best routes, you have to figure out supply and demand, and keep other merchants from muscling in on your routes. Or choke a route by blowing them up, and make sure you have a monopoly on a particular type of goods to send the price through the roof. Not to even mention X^2 which will be coming out relatively soon, which allows you to go so far as to build your own ships, custom.
As for the FF line of thinking, I'm still immersed in FFIX. HATED the magic system in 8, as well as the *feh* main character. Ticked off at 10 for forcing me to play Blitzball. And of course, we have FFIII to thank for bringing Kefka to the world... or the world to Kefka. I can't be sure which.
Sam & Max was great, but a little too short... I prefer the comics to the game. The 'talkie' version of SnMHTR forever skewed the little fluffy lagomorph's voice in my mind away from what it had been for so long.
Fallout/2 were fun, but intensely aggravating to get killed over and over by stupid cave rats. Or irradiated.

Who wants to make a System Shock 2 mod for HL2? Just think of the physics!
-Starcraft- The most polished RTS game ever. This game has to be one of my all time favs. In my oppinion nothing has yet managed to match it for sheer balance and gameplay.
-Battlefield1942- This is just a fun game. There are a few bugs and EA doesnt release patches they release 'expansion packs' and one idiot can really destroy a game though. But if you can find a server without too many stupid people this is a multiplayer experience that cannot be beat.
Freelancer: Sheer open-ended goodness. This game could have been even more open ended though. For example, lets say you destroy a convoy that's carrying supplies to a base. Since the supplies never make it, the demand for them and their selling price goes up. You tractor in a crate of the supplies, head over to the base, and sell them at an inflated price. That could have made things so much more open-ended.
Mafia: Take The Soprano's, mix with Grand Theft Auto 3, add a helping of 1930's Urban America, and you've got a recipe for success! Mafia's drop-dead gorgeious graphics, extremely deep and well written story, "colorful" cast of characters backed by solid voice acting, and a city that seems to come to life off your screen make it a game well worth.
Half-Life: In the 6 years since its release, Half-Life has surpassed all other games in the amount of mods available, players online, and general fun factor that has yet to be duplicated (save maybe Half-Life 2). If everything goes as it should, Half-Life 2 will inheirit the throne in the land of supreme gaming, and take us on one hell of a ride!
Zelda Link to the Past (SNES): Truly a classic. Outdoes anything else in the zelda series.
Diablo I: I would still play this game if it was possible to play legit. Awesome story and monsters.
FF III (SNES English version, FF 5 or 6 in Japan): Outdoes every other FF game made (even FFVII). Wonderful characters, especially Kefka.
Honorable Mentions: Half-life, Deus Ex, FFVII, Zelda I and Ocarina, Skifree <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->, Snake rattle and roll (NES), and bubble bobble (NES).
In no particular order (cant really decide which ones were my fav) 1. Star Ocean 2 - (hey i loved the battle system and the storyline was pretty good) 2. Final Fantasy VII - (most memorable characters and best story from any FF game in my opinion, and i also think the materia system was the best ever) 3. Soulblade - (this has to be the deepest story of any fighting game EVER and possibly any game)
(others) These dont really count but i just felt the need (didnt want to deprive them of their glory) 4. Starcraft - duh 5. Lunar Silver Star Story Complete - very good game 6. Ape Escape - (first game to ever require a dual analog controller, plust its fun to net monkeys <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) 7. Grand Turismo - (real beauty and groundbreaker when it came out)
Flashpoint to realistic for poor me. It feels like Rainbow 6 outside with more friendlys. Battlefield 1942 is just *fun*. Eh every person has his own tastes.
Even if yours are *weird* <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

i'm not gonna mention half-life. i'm angry at it for lowering my GPA. i'm already lazy, and with dod and ns to suck the hours out of my day, it get's worse

-3. i loved marvel vs. capcom 2 for dreamcast. i go back to NY every summer to hang out with one of my buddies, and that summer we got mvc2 for his dc. we got a good 14 hours out of the game.. but those were some DAMN fun 14 hours.

Brutal. Privateer 2 - Never played it but the reviews I've read say it was one of those "Graphics over gameplay" games. You might also want to try ... Whatever the hell Talesin was talking about.
1. Deus Ex. Simply excellent. The non-linear levels were superb. The plot was great. Gameplay was great. Graphics were just 'Ok' but quite frankly who gaves a damn when the games as good as this.
2. X-wing/Tie fighter series. First space sim(s) that really worked. And its Star Wars for god's sake!! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
3. Final Fantasy 7. I lost gods knows how many hours to this game. I can't put my finger on it but i think it was because it was so immersive, the story really dragged you in.
Half Life : without half life,how the hell can you com here reading this post?
Rogue Squadrom : X wing, millennium falcon and the deathstar map brings your **** to the galaxy far far away......
MoHAA : yes,the shotgun is too powerful for the balance of an MP game. yes, using an anti-tank bazooka to blow up just 1 soldier could be the craziest thing i've seen in my life. but the omaha beach in singalplayer simply rocks.......
Here we go: Halo: Probably be changed to Halo 2 in a year. Awesome story for a game, right next to Half-life (until it mostly slows down in the second half, but then the action makes up for it). Excellent graphics, brilliant multiplayer...if only it had been designed for online play. Final Fantasy VII: Awesome story, cool materia system and great depth with all the secrets and stuff. The only game that will ever get you close to being sad for a computer generated character. Jurassic Park for SNES: It was a FPS and over head action game all in one...funny thing is, i never owned an SNES, but my friend had it.
Just off the list: Half-Life: A little out dated, and if you don't count the mods, it's not really played by many people anymore. However, it is one of the only games to work on my computer. (Day of Defeat, Natural-Selection, FireArms) Resident Evil (any, but the first is best): The first one had the best, most unique bosses, but they're all pretty good. Aliens Versus Predator: Fun, but it should have been called Aliens versus Marines (with predators thrown in for the hell of it)...but maybe that was to long. Breath of Fire 3: It was good...until the end, gets tedious after awhile. Command And Conquer: Red Alert: It's popular for a reason... Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: One word (maybe it's two?): Crotchrockets... It's the only driving game I have and ever will own. Maybe I'm weird, but going around chopping people apart with a chainsaw isn't very fun. Soul Calibur: The only fighting game I'll ever buy, well maybe the sequel.
Games that would be good, if...: Morrowind: If I had the PC version (I freaking love to make stuff), XBox version has saving problems over 200 blocks, but this is Bethesda's fault, and has a few remedies. Everquest: If it didn't suck quite so much. Exploring is fun, talking with friends is fun, raiding is semi-fun...going through EXP-cycles, having a horrible economy, retrieving corpses and paying for ****-holes and server crashes, however, is not. Enter the Matrix: If the control scheme didn't suck complete monkey nuts...and maybe better in game graphics.
Games that just blatantly suck <expletive deleted>: Space Channel 5: Holy monkey <expletive deleted>, I can't believe my cousin rented such a <expletive deleted>ing <expletive deleted>ty piece of <expletive deleted>-garbage. Half-Life: Counterstrike: Don't even start me on CS...just...bleh. <!--emo&::siege::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/siege.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='siege.gif'><!--endemo--> CS Jet Set Radio: Must...gouge...out eyes....cel shading must die...and where did I put that bag of cotton balls? I'm sure there are more...a lot more.
All I can think of at the moment.
Listening to: Rage against the Machine: Sleep now in the fire.
Am I the only one here who liked FF III (VI) better than FFVII. The plot in 3 was much better that 7, and the main thing that turned me off in 7 was the fact that aerith died and never came back. I mean WTH, it sounded like squaresoft was gonna bring her back at a certain point, but then they just wrapped it up real quick and shipped the game. For example there is only one dungeon on disc 3, while the other 2 were 30X larger. Anyways I thought the ending was lacking, probably since I had no idea what was happening.
Although FF7 was fun, I had a much better time playing FF3.
Keyser59 would you mind putting spoiler tags on your post? I haven't played FF7 yet. Gah :X
Anyways... 1) Half-Life: Mods, nice level editor. 2) Deus Ex: My fave storyline ever, interesting skills and augs. 3) StarCraft: The only RTS I ever got into.
Runners up: Anachronox, Unreal Tournament, One Must Fall 2097, Max Payne, Outcast

Games that would be good, if...:
Morrowind: If I had the PC version (I freaking love to make stuff), XBox version has saving problems over 200 blocks, but this is Bethesda's fault, and has a few remedies.
Games that just blatantly suck <expletive deleted>:
Space Channel 5: Holy monkey <expletive deleted>, I can't believe my cousin rented such a <expletive deleted>ing <expletive deleted>ty piece of <expletive deleted>-garbage.
Half-Life: Counterstrike: Don't even start me on CS...just...bleh.
<!--emo&::siege::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/siege.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='siege.gif'><!--endemo--> CS
Jet Set Radio: Must...gouge...out eyes....cel shading must die...and where did I put that bag of cotton balls?
I'm sure there are more...a lot more.
All I can think of at the moment.
Listening to: Rage against the Machine: Sleep now in the fire.
Elite Force
The Dig
Nobunaga's Ambition II (SNES)
Half-Life
Although FF7 was fun, I had a much better time playing FF3.
