all-important tools in one download :]
I've packaged some tools together in order to make it easier for new mappers (or even old ones :]) to get their hands on the programs they'll need/should be using

Screenshot of models in-editor: (yeah it should be "start" intstead of "spawn")

Updated:
Now includes links to some tutorials and the mapping guidelines under the NSMapping program group. Amckern's added.
Included lights.rad with many light textures preset.
Fixed some things in FGD.
Hammer auto path setup included.
Put NS hullfile back in (doh! )
Changed site address of my site (now hosted on natural-selection.co.nz)
Automatic wad.txt generation for HLFix (this could have been confusing some people)

Includes/features:

Hammer v3.5 beta

Automatically sets up paths in Hammer!

my Natural Selection .FGD with NS Models included and all the fiddly bits (styled texlights, coloured shadows, etc.)

XP-Cagey's latest build of the compile tools, including opt_plns

Merl's map backup utility

Jedediah Smith's HLFix exporting utility

Nemesis' Batch Compiler

BC config for the tools included (by Ryan Gregg, Roberto Del Pellegrino, Stanislav Sokolov)

Automatically sets up paths to tools in BC!

Files are installed to the default directories - i.e. INSTALLDIR\valve hammer editor & INSTALLDIR\batch compiler.
Start Menu Icons are added to Programs\NS Mapping\.
No uninstall is included, at the moment you can just delete all the files.

2.24MB, get it here!

Any problems post here and I'll get them fixed asap. I am currently unsure if the auto-path-setup works with CounterStrike retail.

    nice work.
This "all in one"-package will come in very handy for people who want to start mapping for ns.
(and because of that why not include a copy of the mapping guidelines as well? I don't think Flayra of XP-Cagey would have anything against that... but at least check back with them befor doing that).

i think puting the guidlines in would be good, though linking to the right sites as well, such as these forums, the guidelines, a few GOOD STRONG tuts, would aslo make it much better for all - just add the url to the nsmapping program group

I've updated the tutorials in my signature, and amckern's suggestion for the links under the NSMapping group - the new file will be posted as soon as I can get hold of Asylum-Skitzo.

If you have a mapping link you'd like me to add, post it here

    ok, some issues

where the hell did the fgd go?

and my half life is on d:, not c: will this effect the models?

also, http://www.geocities.com/adam_tebbutt_mckern/ is a very good one - not geting as many hist as i used to, but google had not down the round yet, so it don't show up in the serach engin, unlike the 400 + hits a day when it was at actionrealm

You might like to include this lights.rad, which includes all the standard HL and NS light textures.
  • watch_me_diewatch_me_die Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 8107Members
Amckern: the FGD is placed in the Hammer directory (it's called ns_update001.fgd), and the models will work as long as you set the paths to directories correctly in Hammer.

I'm still working on trying to figure out how the Hammer settings are stored, so still no auto-setup ATM.

    - Added Amckern's site to the NSMapping program group.
    - Included ChromeAngel's lights.rad.
    - Fixed a couple of things in the FGD.

    wcset.wc in the hammer folder

    DON'T NOT OVER WRITE IT

as this has all the configs that the mapper stes, inculing game configs, mouse speed, window states, and if some one has 50 mod set ups, over writing it will f00k pplz off

    also

    C:\http:/\www.geocities.com\adam_tebbutt_mckern

is what the online group has, is it posible to make a short cut (right click>>>new>>>shortcut) that has the c:\ missing???

I've worked out how to auto-set paths for hammer - the GameCfg.wc file is edited to match.
To cope with this, the installer will ask you if you would like to overwrite it or not.

Amckern: For the shortcuts, what version of windows are you using?
I've tested this in XP and it works, I might have to make it change according to windows versions.

I think the ambience_generic 'not toggled' flag in that fgd is backwards. I've been trying to get a bloody sound to play on its own for about an eon now and what finally worked was when not toggled was unchecked.
