DSL modem driving me insane...
I finally got my NIC working and I now have my DSL modem, but I've run into another problem, the instructions that came with it say that it won't work with a regular phone cord, it comes with a special one, the problem is that it is approximatly 2 centimetres long (ok, so maybe thats a bit of an exaggeration) and my computer is about 5 metres from the nearest phone jack, I have a *huge* one for my dial up modem but the instructions tell me that it won't work. Does it really not work at all or does it just make it so that I can't use my phone while it is connected?

[edit] I just found out that it works through USB! Didn't know that, my ISP recommends using an NIC though, what are the advantages/disadvantages to using USB? An immediate one would be that I could return this pos NIC and get my $25 back. [/edit]
yes you dont need to use the special line teh only thing you may get is a high pitched static inf the phone lines if tehy dont have a z blocking filter on them.
also if you quickly learn to hate the software your dsl came with you can set it up for windows with a lovely program which only takes like 3 sec to cennect as opposed to 5 minutes from sbc or not at all from ameritech. oh get it here you will never know how much to thank me raspppoe
any way enjoy
