Umm go download Zsnes, then do a google search for Contra: The Alien Wars Rom.

or just SNES roms.

Zsnes let's you play a lot of snes games, which you have the catridges for of course, by emulating them on your comp. So you can play contra, R-type, metroid, mario, whatever. Really great when you want some oldschool gaming.

Umm... Yeah, but do anyone know any Freeware PC 2DGames?
• ConfuzorConfuzor Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2412Awaiting Authorization
Best ones out:

Metal Slug Series (3 is the Best!!!) - there are roms for it if you look hard enough.

For the PC, I'd recommend:

Abuse - It's an old DOS game; if you want the Win32 version, go here

Soldat - Like Worms, but it's action. A lot of servers around, so you can play multiplayer pretty easily.

Then there's this game that was mentioned here: http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...2751&hl=madness

abuse is good but not for anyone with a weak stomach

[edit] you could try going to Dos Games Archive. lots of free, old skool games there, although mostly demos [/edit]

Yeah, thanks =)

Any more? (Wee! I like 2D Games!)

I would suggest "Out of This World" if you're prepared to take on brutally frustrating game. The experience itself is cool, but it is VERY hard to play. And if you do play it, DO NOT download the windows version; the DOS version is FAR superior. The windows version lags your movements, and simply movements such as jumping is VERY crucial.

Another World (aka Out of This World)

- You need to sign up to get it, and I don't know whether it's the DOS or Windows version.

[edit] Oh, it's windows; BLEH! It can't be too hard to find though... [/edit]

Ah, I see....

Maybe what your searching for is Raiden...or maybe some decent freeware. Crimson perhaps? Or the almighty Little Fighters 2?

If that doesn't suite your taste then, of course go rom searching for Metal Slug..and of course I do know of a foreign website full of what your looking for. But I lost the URL in the endless void known as my Hard Drive.

not really a Shooter, but check out Pontifex Linkey!, pontifex is not freeware, but the old "build" brigde builder is.

the goal is to contruct a brigde, with limited amounts of resourches, that is strong enough carry a train/some cars, sometimes you also have to build it so ships can sail beneath it...

Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project is a good 2D shooter in a 3D engine.
And lets not forget the Mega Man games now...

Tapan Kaikki.

I kill all translated into english. A top-down 2d shooter, very good, and the best of all, Finnish.
Doesn't work in Win XP. (-v parameter might work, though. Be sure to disable sounds)

The current version is 3.21. TK4 Alpha is coming soon with lots and lots of new features.

Do a Google search for Liero. Think Worms with only one worm per side, real time instead of turn based, and the worms respawn a la deathmatch in any modern 3d shooter. Keeps score nicely, is incredibly balanced, has plenty of weapons, you get the idea.
