Possible Issues With Meta

<div class="IPBDescription">Please ensure they don't exist</div> Since meta protects from ALL damage (as I understand it), it could have a number of intresting uses.

1. Jump towards a mine, activate meta. The mine explodes, but doesn't hurt you, clearing the doorway. As the fade "used" meta to get the kill, this could possibly cause a fade to kill somthing with it.

2. Jump from a high place, activate meta just before you land. Because you are invicible, the fall damage gets changed to energy.

3. If a map uses a trigger_hurt to block acess to somthing, a fade could circumvent it by jumping through the trigger_hurt with meta activated.

4. This might allow a fade to be crushed by somthing and survive as well.

5. It might cause a fade to survive an experence that would normally kill it, like worldspan and/or telefrags, causing a marine or skulk to get stuck in the fade's body.

My suggestion. Make meta ONLY react to bullets. Explosives, knives, welders, falling damage, and ent based damage scources (trigger_hurt, crushing, worldspawn, ect) ignore it if they don't allready do.

it would solve jsut as many peoblems if you had meta react only to {Bullets | Knives | Explosives | Welding} wouldnt it?

It definitely shouldn't work against environment damage (anything that would cause a worldspawn kill if it did lethal damage). I don't know anything about the trigger_hurt thing, so I can't respond to that. However, the damage dealt by marine things (gl's, etc., including damage from elec. tf's and rt's) should be converted by metabolism. I don't think using meta would cause mines that are set off to kill marines, since it is proximity setting off the mines and not the attack. However, maybe the mines should kill marines when set off like this (probably not, though).

Also, where in any map can you be crushed?

There are alot of maps that you can be crushed.. For example..
In NS nancy (I think) the mess hall doors can be fatal if you close them on time.. Same with almost any other button based door. You can close them right on someone and cause complete DOOM

as to my knowledge, enviroment damage only applies to health, and damage from other players or turrets is factored into armor.

So since meta will probably apply to armor, you shouldn't be able to fall and not die, or go through the trigger_hurt.

I'm not quite sure about it though, so here's my disclaimer.

**NOTE** This post is flame retardant. Please take all your complaints that I don't know the HL engine and shove them back up your paihole.

Telefrag/Worldspawn and crush would not be affected.

Crushing doors continually crush, so that one second would save the fade for... one second. Telefrag/Worldspawn is insta-death even if you can't take any damage.

The falling damage actually sounds pretty cool to me. The mines on the other hand seem to let the fade be able to continuously adsorb the damage and gain back energy to do it again.

What's most important is the spam-allowance though. If you run into 10 turrets who will continuously damage you, you would be able to keep up the 'invulnerability' since you'd get alot of damage and thus recover all the energy to continue doing it. This would apply to marines too if metabolism doesn't have any indication, thus they won't know to stop shooting and giving him energy.

On the other hand, I could see metabolism used to make fades perfect meatshields in large fights... I wanna try it =(

I seriously hope meta has a visual, like a glowing ugly piece of <!--emo&::fade::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/fade.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='fade.gif'><!--endemo--> or something

Yeah is should make the fade glow. making him more visable. it is possible to add glow <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> some servers make res nodes glow so i carnt see any reason why it wouldnt make you glow unless they have a better idea in mind <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

If a fade is using his shield not to be hurt he carnt actualy fire at them only pose a distraction from what i been able to pick up. after he lets go of fire button it wears off after 1 sec i belive so wouldnt be able to shoot many acid rockets or what ever off before having to switch back to meta.

If i have miss understood how meta work then sorry heh. but i thnink it should prove to be a very nice weapon <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> been able to draw turret fire while other team members take them down.

It MUST Take armor into accound somehow, load up ns_nothing, go stand on the elevator that connects the viaduct area to generator room, go up but block the edge of the elevator so your head gets squished. For some reason, you lose 1 armor point and no health.

lol, since when did it make you invincible? You really can't make speculation like this unless you KNOW what teh thing is going to be. Trust flayra, for he will provide.

I actually think that being able to make yourself immune to fall damage aswell as general fire would be quite cool, say being able to drop down quad lift and not get hurt. Esp. as you can't blink up or down anymore afaik

Can we get a PT or vet's word on this? How does the game react to a fade taking evironmental damage with meta activated?

Metabolism converts damage to energy. This seems to me like you get energy instead of taking damage. It is possible that people are wrong about that, but that would mean that flayra's post is poorly worded. The question being posed in this post is whether environment things affect the fade, or if the fade is protected from those by metabolism.
