Webbed By The Head

<div class="IPBDescription">Webbing on ceilings.</div> Here is a tactical conundrum that just popped into my head:
Normally when a JP marine flies down a long hallway (ie in siege005)
they will crouch and skim along the ceiling while brandishing their welder.
If a gorge were to lay a web flat on the ceiling such as they can on the ground, would it catch the marine? Or would the marines welding arc melt the web? Or is it just a matter of chance.
I don't have enough friends who are up at this hour to test it and wondered if any of you knew the answer. Or, is there a better pattern in which you like to web?
<i>Even though this is a bit of a tactical question I couldnt decide if it were an alien tactic or a marine tactic</i>

I actually say this done quite well on a public server of all places. This tactic works extremely well on siege, but I think there are some hallways in regular maps where this would work just as well. I am not sure about vents, never tried it in them.
i couldn't agree more!
start a lan
sv_cheats 1
bigdig (insta build)
givepoints (gives rzr)
spawnhive (spawns a hive)X2
go gorge, web up the way you want it
go marine tech up to JP (should take 2 secs) test <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Cool stuff, I never knew the correct commands for that in a lan. However, would sv_cheats 1 allow an alien to go marine once they were an alien? I thought this was blocked.
I know about f4 but if you are an alien then try to go marine you will get an error message that says you cannot go marine once you were alien (in the same game) I was just wondering if it was sv_cheats that overrides that error or another variable.
The long answer is that it depends on the angle of the ceiling and the JPer. If a JPer is aiming upwards slightly, they will probably cut the web. If they are not, they will be caught. If the ceiling is arced and the JPer is going DOWN the arc, they will most likely cut the web. If they are traveling UP they will most likely NOT cut the web and proceed to drop like a 2000 pound bomb...without the explosion.
Sated? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Your wondering are correct, sv_cheats set to 1 overrides that.
Then suddenly I get webbed. "Wth?" I say, as I look up to see the webbed ceiling. As I fall to my death with the whole team laughing at me, and the Kharaa team too. So yeah, it works a lot of the time. Try to do it in places where they aren't expecting it.
yah, aint sv_cheats 1 great <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (I use it all the time for tests)
Won't webbing slightly lower catch the feet of the rine? Try webbing up an entire hallway from top to bottom and see if it is still possible to get thorugh with a jetpack.

If you are expecting it, then no, it won't be any harder to get through.
THe answer to your question: Not usually.
When a marine crouches and flies with JP and a welder going his feet are basically tucked behind the welder. Thus any webs that are low enough to miss the welder will also miss the marine (99% of the time).
