Porting Ns To Hl2 - Even Possible?

<div class="IPBDescription">A question for the dev team</div> DISCLAIMER
I could almost bet my life that someone else has asked this question, and am opening myself up to extreme flaming and very probably moderator nuking - but I swear I used the search tool. It claimed that it couldnt find "halflife2" "half life 2" "hl2" or "half-life 2" which is total bs so I know that its not working.
My question for the dev team is this:
If you finished 1.1, ironed out all major bugs and then released it to the joy of all and the community loved it, would you leave it at that and start working on ns for hl2.
But thats not my real question - the real question is "what exactly can you guys do with porting it to hl2?"
I mean how is it possible to start work on ns for hl2 if it hasn't been released. Please dont think I'm trying to make a point here - I am genuinely interested in understanding how you would go about doing it. I know nothing about making mods or coding and am just wondering what it is generally that you would do. Would valve give you "Source" stuff or what?
Thanks
BTW if someone else knows a similar post to this please direct me to it, and then call a moderater to give this a good nuking.

But to answer your question... the dev's have pretty much said "Stop asking or we'll nuke you." and the community has said "stop asking or we'll flame you." The official answer is... "maybe, in like 3 years."
Rawr. We must learn to stop beating a dead <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> .
Hahahaha, this post was great. Not because of the HL2, but because of the anti-flame paranoia.
Ya it'll probably get locked, but this post does demonstrate something:
The search function is not some all mighty oracle, ask the question and it spits out an answer. It's a lot of work and often even then you may come up empty handed.

That is a huge amount of work, and would require redoing all the artwork and levels at a bare minimum. This is something the team is considering, but haven't made any decisions on yet.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
