    Dang! I lost the nearly-completed ns_precinct file! I should've backed up my latest file earlier! Sorry guys. ns_precinct now has a very slim chance of making this playtest. Greece, NY just got hit by a severe thunderstorm. The nearly-completed file got deleted, along with my whole C drive. I have a half-finished version on my D drive, which didn't get erased. The good news is, the almost-finished version wasn't looking too great, since I had rushed major parts of it. Most of it was concept, anyway, which leaves me open for re-making the unfinished half. Wish me luck.

    Good luck. My HD crashed recently too. You can still post the older screenshots if you want. I am giving you permission to not post my screenshots anymore, just so that you don't feel bad about "backing out."

    Dang it! I exceeded the max texture memory, but I can't seem to fix it without removing necessary textures! Can someone tell me how to fix this without ruining my map?

    Replace textures that you have used with others that are also used, or replace them with smaller textures.

    I have another problem [not again...]. I have 2 hives [ since I had to start over from the halfway point], and neither of them are showing up! Another thing is that I can't build resource towers because the game isn't allowing me. Please help me out.

    Another quick question:
    I need your opinion on something. There are 3 hives and only 1 alien command center. Where should I place the alien command center? I'll take the most popular choice.

    Here are your choices:
    1)In the middle of the 3 hives, towards the middle of the level
    2)In an area inaccessible to the marines except for a door, with vents leading to each hive
    3)Place a command center near each hive, and add 2 more command center consoles [activation computers] inside the marine command center

    There is no Alien command center. There is a Marine CC.

    There's only a marine cc? Then why does the team_command entity have a team selection attribute?

    ns_precinct is from now on a working title and level. This means that even though I started ns_precinct a little over a month ago and planned to finish it, it might not be finished. I completed the beta version of ns_precinct about 15 minutes ago, and when I started to look it over, I felt a little dissapointed. What I saw was not a teamplay level at all. Instead, the teamplay looked as though it might swing towards the marine side, making gameplay pretty boring. There were also some texture issues, many of which
    made me think of actually not finishing this level, but dumping it instead. The commander mode had a few problems, too. In some areas, you could see through the walls, into areas that aren't supposed to be seen. One of the major problems of the map was that the hives were not showing up.
    Lastly, the cavern hive location was supposed to look realistic. I am not very good at making realistic walls. If
    possible, I would like someone to take a look at the level, and maybe clean it up a bit. There are some areas that need work, especially on the outside, never-to-be-seen-in-game, part of the map, to reduce r_speeds and compile time. There are also some areas that could use some texture work, and the caverns could be made to look a little more realistic.
    I will give half of the map's credit to the person who did this for me.

    If you're confused about something this integral to mapping, you need to stop, go back, and read the entire mapping guideline document that KFS linked to above. You are missing some crucial information that would make your map unplayable.

    There's no rush, mappers. If your map isn't ready by Friday, it won't be in the official release due to time constraints. That means, take your time, and do it right. NS mapping is very, very complicated. Probably about 10 times more complicated than CS mapping.

    Many very experienced mappers - Relic, Narby, etc - have called NS the most difficult HL mod to map for, bar none, hands down, by a long shot.  There are many things that need to be considered and many special elements to deal with.  Take the time to do it right... don't feel you *have* to make the official release.  And don't try if it's going to compromise the quality of your map.

    I still need some help on the caverns and the r_speed reduction, but I guess I can wait until tomorrow, since Friday does not have to be the deadline for the initial map release. I am working on re-making the readyroom and the hive locations. When I am done, the level should be significantly balanced.
