<div class="IPBDescription">The plee of an owner of DoD Retail</div> I can't join most servers because they haven't updated to the latest HLDS, whatever that is. So I'm just wondering if this is a problem that will be solved with time or do I have to launch a campaign for the latest HLDS patch?

    I have DOD mod installed and can connect fine without the patch installed. I know CD has some issues with the retail version, maybe it's that.

    Anyway, just install the MOD version and solve your problems. What extra things do you get in the retail version anyway?

    I have Day of Defeat retail. I don't have Half-Life. In order to join a server it has to have the latest HDLS patch. This is not about Cheating Death. This is about me not being able to join a server because it can't authenticate me.

    umm........ are u up to date? it will tell you the server is out of date even if you are infact the one out of date.

    No it just says it can't authenticate. I went to DoD forums and they say the server isn't running the latest HLDS patch which is apperantly needed for people with DoD retail to join. Now look at the question I asked in the first post and try to answer that. There is nothing I can do to make it work, so would you guys please stop giving me your "fix-it" theories.

    I know you said to stop it with the fix it theories, but lets face it fixing it your end is a lot easier than trying to get every server to update to a buggy HLDS that at the best will make no difference and at the worst will stop the server from working.

    Did you know that if you get a copy of Half-Life you can use the cd key you received for DOD to install it? Then all you have to do is install the free DOD mod, NS, CS etc. You will have a lot less problems this way.

    I bought CS retail but never installed it, I just installed HL and downloaded the CS mod because it caused less problems.

    Your problem just highlights the issues with retail versions, of which you will have more I promise. Do yourself a favour, borrow Half-Life from a mate.

    Well, it seems this Day of Defeat cd-key isn't compatible with Half-Life. It says I don't have the right cd-key when I enter it. It certainly doesn't look compatible. It's 20 digits of letters and numbers.

    I found some info on the problem. Half-Life and Counter-Strike retail use WONID authentification, Day of Defeat uses ValveID authentification. Older HLDS version can't authentify ValveID. So back to my original question: Will servers begin to eventually update their HLDS or should I just give up hope?

    I tried running the latest HLDS build a few weeks ago and it resulted in crashes left and right. Valve Just released an "new" HLDS version I may try a little later and see if I can get that going on NS, but I don't know right now.

    Exactly. Version x.1.1.1 of HL is extremely disappointing. I haven't encountered anyone that would want to run x.1.1.1 on their server over x.1.1.0c

    Personally I think they should give you HL for free anyway seeing as you can download DOD for free.

    Anyway I'm not installing that update. If a new version comes out with CS1.6 that's any good then I'll update. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Just a thought, you obviously managed to get NS installed through DOD retail, perhaps you can install the mod aswell?

    I don't think any of the NS servers will be going to the new server. The new server changed a lot of variables, so a lot of mods won't work properly with it and neither will CD. So unless they change NS to be compatable with it, or they release a new server patch that is backwards compatible. It's not very likely. If I was you, I would check the DoD sight and the VALVE sight for any work arounds.

    HAH! That's the funny thing. The only servers that do work are the ones that require CD.
