Yeah I have had my fair share of problems with Aussie NS players too (remember that tourney Missy and I ran... Yeah I developed quite a nasty dislike for the Australian attitude all the way back then... I swear letting them in was one of the biggest mistakes we had made in the planning phase of things...), so I definately know what your talking about....

But it doesn't pay to moan about it... Not here anyway... All we're gonna get is defensive Aussies hurling more abuse than usual and uninformed people from other countries who don't really understand what our beef is coming in and telling us to shut up or go away or something like that...

Just remember, you can't please em, so stop trying... Avoidance is the best technique for dealing with our beloved trans-tasman neighbours...

Edit: I think it might be a good idea for me to point out here that it's only the 'general aussie public' that we have problems with. There are MANY Australians who do not fit the above profile and who are very pleasant people to deal with. Mouse is one fine example of this, and he most certainly is not the kind of person being talked about when we make our sweeping statements. Ofcourse there are many others like him that I do know, but he is the only example springing to mind right now...

So one bad experience is sufficient to blacklist an entire country? Maybe you're not quite ready to participate in online games with an attitude like that.

I didn't know bad gaming skills have something to do with your mother country :/

My case in point. New Zealanders are extremely tolerant by nature. We let things slide for an extremely huge amount of time before we pass judgement or comment.

Just because this is the first time you hear of such an incident, it doesn't neccesarily mean that this is the first time it has occured.

Beldrick was quite clear about the fact that he was defining Australian NS players, and not any other sector of Australian society.

I can only reciprocate what other people have already said, don't judge an entire community from a small sample of players. Maybe you were just unlucky and had a group of Australians that aren't well behaved and I'm sure posting here in an attempt to defame other Australians won't help the matter. Every community has it's undesirables, doesn't mean that whole community is full of them.

I have to agree with Fantasmo, this thread should be locked. This could be classed as racism?

as representative of www.AusNS,org, it saddens me to see this kind of opinion being generated. While I agree that some Australian NS players go a little bit over the top, it seems unfair to generalise us all as "waynkers". Just like with any group of people, there will always be a few undesireables.

Please try to see the difference between Player X, an Australian NS player and the entire Australian NS community, while we all work to educate gamers on in-game manners and such

    @ Fantasmo

First off I don't think the word ignorant exactly applies to this thread when it is infact the outside world that is ignorant of the relationship between Australians and New Zealanders. Perhaps it would have been better had this thread not existed, as it is problem NZ NS players have with OZ NS players in general, and on the world stage it is suspect to people's lack of immediate knowledge on the subject.

Secondly, simply denying that we have had an issue with general Australian behaviour on NS servers for as long as we can remember having played NS doesn't work either... Burying problems doesn't fix them.

I don't know what we can do except to simply not play with them... But considering the quality of NZ ISPs we really face precious few other options...

That would be a heck of a lot funnier though if many of the Australians didn't truly believe that... They seriously do... It's like many of them have superiority complexes or something...
  • LethyLethy Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7666Members, Constellation
It's not true we have superiority complexes over New Zealanders. I mean, I couldn't hit on sheep as well as you!

Alot of people in this world are Cocky... and what can you do? Nothing really...

You just have to live with it...

ie. Like today, in soccer, we played this team that were fully cocky... we proved them wrong, we thrashed them for the second time!

Anyways, Bit of a useless thread, ah well.

This sort of thing happens far too often to be called an isolated incident.

Beldrick is angry, as any one of us would having come from a situation like that. This is an issue that has arisen many times in the kiwi community, and we've tried to move on. Not all Aussies are like that. Many are however, and that is the problem.

    @pie_lad

It is indeed saddening to see things head in this direction. I would have been far happier had this remained dead and buried... But yeah... It's out and it is true that many NZers feel a certain level or frustration with many members of the Aussie community. Many, not all.

It was perhaps unfair to categorise every Australian NS player into the one category, but it is unfortunate that the 'bad' Aussie players unfortunately tend to dominate the many of the games that a lot of us play in Aussie... I think the problem is that many kiwis tend to be more emotionally reserved, and as such we display it less prominently when we are unhappy (until it's too late and explodes like it has now)...

I'm not saying either way is better... It's just a different way of dealing with stressful or unproductive games, and the perhaps friction created by the "cultural clash" of sorts is the real problem here...

The admins of both sites will clash in a trans-tasman match up... to show we can keep it real

So that's the special flavour. :s

Though, I'd be really suprised if you do export sheep to us, considering we are also a major farming based economy.

Though, gotta love that Super 12 rugby where one of the new zealand teams had guys in tuutuus (sp?) dancing like ballerinas for half-time entertainment and the NZ commentator said off-air "Who the hell said we were a nation of sheep ****?".

It clearly needs to be said:

Players with bad attitude can be found in every country around the world, and in every game imagineable. No country, no community, is immune.

And these players are not, never have been, and never will be indicative of all players from those communities. This is a truth as plain as the as the sun is bright.

When you make a post deriding one community of players, you look foolish, for you appear just as bad and so deride your own. In pointing the finger you simply draw attention to yourself as an example of the very thing you hate.

For the record, two of the playtesters are Australian. They are spending an inordinate amount of time testing 1.1 and providing feedback so that the NS community -- an awesome, global, multi-national community (including you) -- can have a better game.

The mature thing to do would be to post an apology.
