Gabe Newell Interviewed at HLF. A few brief quotes - follow the link above to see the rest.

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->HomeLAN - We saw one example of a drivable vehicle (a dune buggy) in the E3 demo. Will there be other drivable vehicles in the full game?

Gabe Newell - Yes. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->HomeLAN - In the E3 demo we saw an scene where Gordon knocks over a PC monitor and the scientist reacts to it. Was that unscripted and if so can other scenes like that occur in Half-Life 2?

Gabe Newell - That was unscripted. There aren't actually scripts in the Half-Life 1 sense. The high level way of thinking about it is that there are actors, actors are in scenes, actors hit their spots, actors deliver lines, and actors have to improvise. Actors are aware at all times of where you are, where you are looking, and what you are doing. In the MOD SDK we'll include a room where everywhere you look, move, and do something that characters will react and respond to show MOD authors how to use the acting system. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->HomeLAN - Speaking of mod makers, how much renewed support will Valve give for Half-Life 2 mods and are there plans for a Half-Life 2 mod event to teach mod makers the tools, like Epic has done for Unreal Tournament 2003?

Gabe Newell - This year's MOD expo will be more about introducing the MOD makers to the technology rather than our traditional introduce the MOD teams to the press event. We've learned a lot about MODs through our experiences with Team Fortress Classic, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and so on. Half-Life 2 will be a dramatically better MOD platform than Half-Life 1. We will be working with select MOD teams prior to the release of the product. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Mod stuff! Scripting! Vehicles. Oh boooyyyyy!!!

    How big do you think maps will be?

    Bigger than BF1942?

    It would be great to have a tank and be able to blow buildings up. Remember the tank level in Allied Assault? Blowing up just about all the buildings was great. That was on the Quake 3 engine, I wonder if that's possible with 'Source', sure hope so.

    I don't know about any images but the 25 minute gameplay video that shows the jeep map among other things can be found at fileplanet's HL2 section.

    He's obviously gone insane.
  • eedioteediot Join Date: 2003-02-24 Member: 13903Members
    insane enough to stick with this godawful optus plan.

    they are worse than satan, cos satan doesnt go "no, honest, im a good guy at heart" then rip off his halo once he's got you in a contract and start whipping you with festering meat.

    Here's my advice to you: Screw you family, forget about everything else you were planning on downloading this month, and go for it, trust me, its more than worth it.

    find me the 25mb clip then <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Forget about the 25mb clip, you must get that video now! Even in .mov format the graphics look better than Doom 3 (aside from the lighting).

    EDIT: Here you go!

    This is your vehicle. That gun on it is the guass gun from the original.

    <img src='http://www.steve9168.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/jeep.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Here is you getting shot at by this flying thingy...

    <img src='http://www.steve9168.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Onthemove.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Here is you taking a shortcut through a warehouse window...

    <img src='http://www.steve9168.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Shortcut.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    And my personal favourite from another scene. Stealing letters from a sign and throwing them at the Strider.

    <img src='http://www.steve9168.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/sign.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Watching the game actually run is a helluva lot better though. There is so much I wanted to post.

    Jay123: Nice pictures, but couldent you scale them down a little? Because they get to blurry when they are that high resolution.

    Give me a minute. I'll scale them down by 1/2 and edit the original post.

    EDIT: Done. Looks a little better and doesn't take up so much space!
