2-hive Lockdowns Still Realistic In 1.1?

I just read this post by Flayra in 1.1p changelog

This was responding to people saying they are too hard to kill, and wondering if they were supposed to be that hard to kill. This means that 1.1 will still have 2-hive lockdowns, because it will allow marines to dominate on resource flow, since the aliens will have a very hard time taking down elec rt's.

    Now aliens can get onos at 1 hive. There's no way for 2 hive lockdowns. A vet or PTer confirmed that.

    That's too bad, two hive lock down was one of the strats that I really enjoyed because it wasn't easy to pull off with an organized alien team. Not that its pretty much impossible, I wonder what other strats marines have at their disposal in 1.1.

    well you CAN still lock down 2 hives and deny the aliens to only 2 abilities and the 2 nodes.

    but then the onos will trample ya before u could ever HA

    How long does it take to get onos with 2 res nodes?

    Also, does electrifying res nodes set back tech that much?

    Well, electric nodes cost something on the lines of 25 res each, so if you upgrade a lot of nodes, that will cost you a lot. So the resources used up prevents you from getting upgrades for a while, which would probably increase the number of kills that the aliens get, thereby increasing the resoucres (assuming a res for kill model). So, while I don't know for sure, it sounds plausible that getting a lot of electric nodes might cause an onos stampede.

    Its true. I have experimented a few times trying to pull this off. It simply cant be done because you have to have the perfect balance of defense, upgrades and also offense. You cant have it in the time aliens can get massive tech ( Onos ).

    However.....dont rule this out on a late game. Say that you have good upgrades, lots of res, and a small HA team out somewhere ( Very possible scenario). Then the aliens do a rush on your base and destroy it. You could send your heavies to take over a hive. Build up some turrets then send them to another hive. If they take the other one and you manage to set it up well, then the 2 hive lockdown works well.

    If you dont take that 2nd hive fast, aliens can just rampage your new base with bile bomb and its game over. So I mean it could be something very fun to try out with so many possibilities. I guess we'll see later on.

    i THINK i remeber someone saying it takes 7 seconds with 3 res nodes to get 1 res for an alien, i tihnk it was average teams.
    but the chambers are dirt cheep
