    Yeah its a very interesting article.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Epic Games does more than tolerate mod makers, it encourages them. To prove this, the company is sponsoring the richest contest in computer game history, giving away cash and prizes totaling over $1 million. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Maybe Flayra and Co should port Natural-Selection over and fund their develop for
    many months to come. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    This was mentioned on <a href='http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/06/06/164210&mode=thread&tid=127&tid=186&tid=204&tid=206' target='_blank'>Slashdot</a> a few days ago. At first glance it looks like a great contest, but when you look more closely, things aren't so rosy. For a start, it does sound a bit like a last-ditch attempt to get some much-needed market share for the multiplayer Unreal games - there's no real 'killer mods' available for any recent game apart from Half-Life. I bet we've all looked at the <a href='http://www.gamespy.com/stats/' target='_blank'>GameSpy statistics page</a> recently. There are many Half-Life mods that are more popular than recent games, completely ignoring Counter-Strike...

    Plus, there may (or may not be) the issue of tax on the prizes, depending on who you listen to.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->According to the contest page: "All costs, taxes, fees and expenses associated with entry into this Contest and any prizes received shall be the sole responsibility of the entrants and winners." The federal income tax alone on the $350,000 Unreal Engine commercial license would, according to the latest IRS tables, be $103,832.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    It could be somewhat unfortunate if someone were to win this competition only to be saddled with a huge tax bill.

    Oh, and one person noted that 'Natural Selection owns!' - glad to see some recognition in the wider world for an excellent modification... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
